Proposed BCS by a Buffalo
Re: Proposed BCS by a Buffalo
Its basically district football, like in high school. It's a thought that occurred to me in the past, but I kept all of the BCS conference schools in it. However, there is no way these conferences are going to split up like this.
Re: Proposed BCS by a Buffalo
Colorado and Stanford are in but ISU is out? THAT's some kool-aid
Re: Proposed BCS by a Buffalo
I think he loses all credibility the moment he considers throwing out the defending big east champion. That article is crap.
Re: Proposed BCS by a Buffalo
I think we're all gonna hate it just because it throws out ISU. But really, throwing us out and adding East Carolina? That just shows the author is a "flavor of the day" type of guy.
Re: Proposed BCS by a Buffalo
Two of the teams he suggested throwing out have beaten his in the past two years. What an idiot. Hell, all of those teams except Duke would have beaten CU last year. We were one idiot call away from doing so, and I think that game would have been different in Ames.

It's more than that. Throw out Cinncinati, Northwestern and UCONN? All did better than CU last year. Same w/Vandy. It's a pretty ******** set up.

And put ND in the West Coast conference? Yup, makes sense.

The same #12 Cincy team that got ****-pounded by a run of the mill #19 VT team? I don't have much problem with that...Cincy has had maybe two solid seasons in recent history, both against weak schedules. I wouldn't take that one too much to heart.
I don't think the fact he throws them out though at all invalidates his main point...even if that team is a sticking point. I've said for a long time, and I am NOT a playoff advocate, that the main reason a playoff isn't feasible to me is there are simply too many teams in the mix in D1. It's a simple fact of the numbers.

That Cincy team would have likely pounded CU though. ISU nearly beat them on their home turf, and many of the other listed teams finished better than CU.
Re: Proposed BCS by a Buffalo
This article is stupid. This "new" league would not be able to generate the amount of money that NCAA Football does currently.
I have a solution: EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP OBSESSING OVER A MYSTICAL NATIONAL CHAMPION IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL.
Re: Proposed BCS by a Buffalo
Argue with the specifics of the implementation all you want, but something along those lines is what really needs to happen in order for a playoff to really be viable.

I think you need to get the university presidents and coaches on board as well. I'm not sure too many are actually upset about the way it is now.

Agreed. Football is inherently good. Having a "true national champion" doesn't make it any better than it already is.

That's a huge part of the issue.
The NCAA has little to no influence over the BCS in the first place.
The major conferecnes don't care about "fair", they care about "lucrative".
If they don't see a business case for changing things, they will never do it.
And there has not been a SINGLE proposal brought up with anything resembling a solid business case behind it.
There's also a question of rocking the boat. There are 100+ years of tradition behind some of the conferences in College football. It would be akin to saying to MLB, "Let's just make one league instead of having the American and National, and have everyone play each other".
