UNL foundation invested 200K in the campaign - through creative contract UNL is getting a new facility for next to nothing. This is correct. The arena was passed mainly to retain and bring back some of the high school championships, to to attract better events in the future. Sure, Nebraska basketball will be a main tenant, but it wasn't all about Nebraska basketball. I'm pretty sure Nebraska Volleyball will continue to play in the Collesium.
Also, I'm pretty sure the vote was for a $25 million bond, not to pay for the entire $344 Mil.
Lincoln badly needed this. Devaney was outdated, but the Pershing Auditorium was an absolute pile of junk.

Will NEVER happen as long as St. Tom of the Prairie is AD.

They do move to DeVaney for larger national matches though.

Wow. That thing is ******* hideous.
Don't confuse hope for a plan. -
Re: Lincoln Approves New Haymarket Arena
Why the heck would they want this? To show off a 20% full arena at basketball games? Yikes. Also, agree on the fact that there won't be any alcohol served while Osborne is there.

Who are we to crush that kind of beauty and strength?
Though I am a bit suprised it was modeled more after a tornado than a stalk or ear of corn...

Re: Lincoln Approves New Haymarket Arena
I apologize, my previous post played off of a harmful stereotype that people from Nebraska have absolutely no insperation in their lives that is unrelated to corn.

No kidding.... you can't even drink at tailgates in Lincoln unless you hide your beer in a cup. Nebraska is way, way too lame and uptight to have the balls to serve beer at a college sporting event, they have a dry campus.

Re: Lincoln Approves New Haymarket Arena
The new arena in Lincoln will be huge for Nebraska Men's Basketball. They are still the only Big XII program without a basketball practice facility. I have a feeling next year may be Doc Sadler's last. If they have a new arena, basketball practice facility, and a quality new coach they seriously could be a Men's Basketball Program to watch out for.
Go Cyclones!

Go Cyclones! There are one or two other schools that don't yet have facilities, but they are underway, I think. I could be wrong.

The sketchy bar in Decorah is called the Haymarket... sounds like a fitting name :)
