Straight from Bryce Miller....
"My initial thought: Though the language is, granted, more conversational than we might consider for use in print - I think most if not all of the underlying information/context/points could be defended as valid by someone in an unbiased position (code for: not an Iowa State fan)."
"A columnist's role - not limited to this era or this newspaper - is to generate discussion, debate and thought, through the most honest appraisal of situations possible"

"A columnist's role - not limited to this era or this newspaper - is to generate discussion, debate and thought, through the most honest appraisal of situations possible" Yes. The honest appraisal of a columnist (Miller knows better than to use the J word) who repeatedly runs down ISU. Who would suggest that Keeler is being dishonest? I'm suggesting that he's a ******bag, honestly.

The company that owns them has troubles with some of the other papers they own, which explains layoffs ect at the Register. The register is hands down one of the top papers in the country and that is 100% not up for debate. People who do not agree with what the Register writes want to believe that the paper is failing and that is redic.

Re: Keeler Ripped on own blog comments section
There is no way that Bryce would allow that delivery if the message was about Iowa.
Given the hundreds of other options in getting news, why would any Cyclone do business with the Rag? It is a joke that ISU cannot get the support of the central Iowa.
If the Rag wanted to generate discussion, debate and thought, through the most honest appraisal of situations possible, perhaps they should report on if their is economic loss to central Iowa if ISU does not play major college athletics.

It has been a steady fall the past couple of decades.
I guess they do employ people in the area.

Re: Keeler Ripped on own blog comments section
WTF!? How does incendiary remarks generate discussion outside the giant "FU" that is being discussed right now? Remarks like Keeler's do not generate actual discussion, it prevents it due to rudeness to the reader base.

I guess they do employ people in the area. What numbers do you base this on? Also, when you factor in the growth in online, readership has grown. I lol at people who say, "I dont support the register by buying it, I read it online for free". Either way they are still making money, infact recently they have been trying to convert people to online as it is easier to show advertisers readership info ect. They could care less about the 75 cents you pay to purchase the paper.

I think that is bs, Im not sure if the other guy supports the clones or not, but why have someone who openly dislikes the cyclones cover them? It doesnt make any sense.

As far as using circulation numbers, it is too easy to make The Rag look bad...they just do not bring anything to the table, not enough population for the requisite readership/advertising, the Gazette has Iowa covered, etc.....hmm, you would think the Rag would support ISU's position. However, given how many resources are on-line, I cannot imagine why anyone would need to visit that site.

As do I. However, given how many resources are on-line, I cannot imagine why anyone would need to visit that site. Why would the general pop of the US be interested in DSM or it's paper? You obviously have no clue what the circulation numbers are. The Gazette? haha serious? This is my last post concerning this as you really havent a clue.

This is my last post concerning this as you really havent a clue. Clearly my satire was too subtle. I thought I implied that solely using circulation numbers is not applicable, as DSM is in too small of market for it to even be in consideration as a top newspaper- similar to The Rag's argument of why no conference will want ISU. I am sure papers of the size of the Boone News Republican receive awards for papers of the market size, but it still would be the Boone News Republican. To go back to the sports analogy, the best D1-AA team is never considered as one of the best teams in college football.
Oh, and circulation numbers are very easy to obtain.

Re: Keeler Ripped on own blog comments section
I still don't get the overwhelming anger at him delivering what is truthful.
The south schools don't want us.
The Big 10 doesn't want us.
Our only hope is Tex/OU don't leave the Big 12.
If the Big 12 implodes ISU is truly screwed.
Which of those points is untrue?

Which of those points is untrue? Again, you don't know if these are true or not. You nor Keeler knows that these statements are facts. In Keeler's case they're presumptions intended to insult ISU football.
