The best thing for the big east imo is for a football/basketball split contingency plan. If the big ten announces it wants Missouri, and the Pac 1O goes after the other big 12 schools the big east should split and the football schools should

I actually think this would be a best-case scenario if the superconferences form, the Big 12 melts down, and ISU can't find its way into the Big 10. That being said, I think it's unrealistic as most of the Big East is going to find itself in the ACC after the SEC gets done raiding the ACC to form its own 16-team superconference. If we were forced to leave the Big 12 this would be ideal...

I'd also like to see us go after the midwestern teams in the Big East that just play basketball. Marquette and Depaul (I know they've suffered since moving the big east) would both be nice additions to any conference, and are both in some nice recruiting territory.

I think if anything happens this will be pretty close to the mash up of teams that we'll be grouped with. That looks pretty good for football but that East division would be BRUTAL for basketball.

I agree with these types of discussions. Instead of worrying about joining the Big East or MWC, the most logical path would seem to be creating a new "Midlands" conference around the 4 leftover Big 12 schools (ISU, KU, KSU, and CU/Baylor). We steal who we want from MWC, C-USA, etc to get to 12 or 16. I would bet the economics would work better to stay at 12 than to push for 16 and try to be one of the super conferences.

We would survive, but total revenue would probably fall from today's level, so we would be left to have to cut costs/salaries/facilities.

The travel for this league would be unbearable, both financially and from the academic stanpoint. Everything in the East division is over 1000 miles from Ames, and half of the West division is over 500 miles away. For comparison, all Big 12 teams are within 1000 miles of Ames, and 6 are within 600 miles.

To get travel costs down, there would have to be numerous extended road trips, which would terrible on the kids.

I understand what your saying, but how does South Florida do it? I'm not sure how far they are from the other Big East schools, but it seems over 500 miles. South Florida can afford to fly all of their teams to member schools and there budget is less than ours. Also concerning students being on the road too much, how does South Florida handle that as well? Not questions I expect anyone here to answer, just comparing the two schools geographically.

If the Big XII dissolves, that will be the case for ISU no matter where they land.

This is what I was thinking, but do these teams have any incentive to come to a new Big 12?
