Re: Quick Hits from Beebe's News Conference
Sounds like something is going to happen. And it doesn't look like a full merger...

Well IMO his job is on the line here. We are in the position because no one put in checks to limit power. The conference chose to ride the big powers and put their eggs in that basket. Now, if they leave there goes our eggs. We needs eggs.
I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU
Or so I have read. -

You can call me a downer but none of this bodes good for us at all. I just can't see a silver lining right now... -
Re: Quick Hits from Beebe's News Conference
Wow, this pretty much confirms that something is going to happen, but it might still take a while to sort it all out.
He said he’s encouraged by the meetings and the process set forth by the board of directors to allow schools to explore. Apparently the drop-dead date for all schools is next April, but Beebe would not update with specifics saying only “the process is firm.”
He also appealed to regional ties and travel patterns for student-athletes that could be altered if schools leave to compete several hours away via airplane.
The latter quote has me thinking that Beebe is trying to work out a Pac 20 alliance rather than having the Pac 10 take six of the Big 12 schools.
I'd still like to see the Big 10 extend an invitation to ISU. If they're really serious about academics, they wouldn't take just NU and MU and leave us behind.

Not sure if I correlate what you think with Beebe's quote about travel. To me it sounds like he is trying to appeal to the senses of the schools that extended student travel is bad. I don't think he's trying to set up a 20 team merger.

Re: Quick Hits from Beebe's News Conference
Beebe is totally worthless. He has no leadership ability. He can't arrange a TV network. He won't consider an expansion or merger - even though that's what is needed to survive in the BCS. What has he done for the Big 12 conference? -
Re: Quick Hits from Beebe's News Conference
Here are my thoughts after listening to the press conference, listening to KC sports talk radio and reading the articles.......
-The B12 is in full blown panic mode.
-No one at this point knows where they will end up, but they are all working in their own best interest and putting plans in place.
-The B12 is going to be raided by at least 2 and maybe 3 conferences.
-Formal invites will start to happen soon
Beyond this here are my personal speculative ideas that I think will happen......
-The Pac 10 initially started floating taking 10 from the B12 but after looking at the financials they decided all they need is 6.
-With that said, there's no guarantee that UT/OU/A&M will say yes. I wouldn't be surprised if UT to the B10 and OU/A&M to the SEC happened, but I still think they stay together and go to the Pac 10.
-We are going to be on the outside looking in when this is all said and done, along with Kstate and KU.

Re: Quick Hits from Beebe's News Conference
"Beebe thinks the Big 12 can be viable. He likes the number of 12 and said it is “the optimum number” but will consider expansion. “I think that’s the number that works,” he said."
This really sticks out like a sore thumb. Seriously Beebe? Expansion? How are we going to expand when we're being poached?

Re: Quick Hits from Beebe's News Conference
This really doesn't look good for ISU.
The greed of the Big X has caused this whole thing to implode. They were on top of the college landscape, but they couldn't leave well enough alone and enjoy their advantage.
In the end, they may lose out on the big prize, and they may have forced the merger of other schools that will knock them off the top of the mountain.
This a sad day for intercollegiate athletics. Money has corrupted the sports landscape.
