Have Texas Longhorns (and any other school) Considered these ?

Just a thought whether the move to Pac-10 will benefit the schools invited (esp Texas and Big 12 South teams):

1. The Longhorns currently control Big 12. If they move to Pac-10 (the future: Pac-16). Will they be able to control the new conference ? I guess not as USC or Cal or UCLA are the kings. Would Texas be OK with it, being a co-player instead of the main player ?

2. Texas (and other schools invited) need to learn from ACC expansion. How many times have the teams from ACC played in the national championship since the expansion ? Yes, teams like Miami and FSU haven’t been really good, but the biggest consequence of having a superconference is it will make life harder. Currently, Texas only need to beat OU (I don’t see Aggies, Cowboys or Red Raiders) to guarantee Big 12 South title and they should be able to beat Big 12 North champ. At least, BCS game is guaranteed. If they move to Pac-16, they will have to face UCLA, Cal and USC who have a chance to beat them too. Plus it’s in the new territory.

3. How about the other schools ? the Cowboys and Red Raiders have been enjoying respectable bowl games as OU and/or Texas getting to BCS games almost every season. With the Pac-16, the bowl “pie” might stay the same while the competition increased significantly. Are they ready ?

With Mizzou wanting to go to Big 10, it wouldn’t hurt them but it wouldn’t be beneficial for them. They’re not a major player, won’t go to BCS: good enough to they won’t go to BCS. They might go to better bowl or worse. Let’s ask the FB team: why did they cancel the game against EIU 2 seasons ago ? If they go to expanded Big 10, they’ll always be behind OSU, EIU and probably PSU. The MBB team will get more benefit.

CU ? With their sorry state of the FB and MBB teams, it doesn’t matter. They’ll be doormats, until they get better. They could be ISU in the Pac-16.

I agree with most of what you said. I think the only reason Texas would want to change their current situation is if they feel the B12 is going to implode anyway, with defections from teams like Mizzou/Nebby to B10, CU and possibly others to Pac 10, A&M to SEC???

It isn't entirely in their hands anymore because most schools are flirting with leaving regardless and the other conferences are now scared too, so they are aggressively trying to expand just because "the other guy is expanding".

Also, if the only way to save the B12 is to share revenue, then UT will just go to a more economically viable (super) conference if they are going to have to share revenue.

If you're going to hand out money, you would rather get more from a new super conference TV contract and with schools that are more economically sound, than sharing with ISU, K-state, Baylor, etc.

Do you think the smug people at UT have even given this a thought? Everything is "bigger" in Texas so they probably have already adopted the attitude that they will own the Pac 16. Remember.... Texas has never seen a conference that they didn't join and then ruin. They are just ready for their next destructive conquest....

The driving point is the TV money from FOX. It has been reported that the PAC 10 teams could pocket $20 million per year from agreeing to the deal with FOX. The $20 million is a lot of incentive to jump ship and join the PAC 10 if invited.

THIS hit the nail on the head...I think this is exactly what happened....everyone wanted revenue sharing to save the league...and UT said fine..."we're taking our ball and going home."

Texas wil be the driving force in all realignments, who cares about what Nebraska or Missouri does ,certainly not me , Nebraska's standards are below any conference not enough people in the whole ******* state to matter
