As far as a conference payout, I agree it goes football then basketball then everything else with football so far ahead. Within an AD sports like wrestling, wbb and volleyball are important. Every dollar you take in is a dollar you don't lose. That's important.

So the SEC is dividing up a $209 million pie while the Big 12 is dividing up a $139 million pie.

How big are the pies for the other major conferences...Big 10, Pac 10, ACC, and Big East? Does anyone have that for 2009?

As far as a conference payout, I agree it goes football then basketball then everything else with football so far ahead. Within an AD sports like wrestling, wbb and volleyball are important. Every dollar you take in is a dollar you don't lose. That's important.

But all of these sports are not revenue positive...all other sports beside FB and MBB LOSE MONEY...which means if we end up in a conference that provides less conference based revenue we are likely to see fewer sports...the mens ones will go first due to gender equity.

Although this data is dated (2007-2008) it shows the top revenue producing football teams. The Iowa football team actually had more revenue than the top revenue producing football team from the Pac 10.

Wow...huge gap between Big 10 and SEC and all the others.

How long will it be before the SEC overtakes the Big 10? I firmly believe that will happen because of the population shifting to the south and because FB is religion in the SEC.

The ACC just redid their contract from 67 Mil - 155. (that is a 7.33 mil increase for a league that is considered below the big12 in football) We should be able to get 170-180 Million when we renew if all members are there still.


The thing I am confused on right now is the fact that it says we earned 78 mil in tv revenue, but the big 12 reports we recieved $139 mil in total revenue. So is that 61 million generated from bowl games, basketball , big12 championships etc...?

If were to get 180 million for tv then that would equal 15 mil per school.
The thing that makes the most sense for me is to use a reward system for how the money is split. So an example

You have a $180 Mill TV Revenu pot.
A team gets $1 million for winning the division
A team gets $1 million for winning the Football Title.
A team gets $1 Million for going to a BCS game.
Put in a bowl game pick rule where teams can't leap frog another team that has 2 more wins)

So that basically means teams like OU, UT and Neb are going to get more

I did this quick and I don't know how the other money is split up other than the tv revenue, but if you could get teams like Texas, OU and Neb 15-18 million then that is SEC money. And if you get all the games on tv and the lower schools 14-15 million then I don't see what the issue is. You get to stay in your conference where its easy to travel and 11/12 schools are in the same time zone. Would that be enough for teams to turn down 20-22 million to stay intact and not have to travel more etc.

Maybe I am way off base with this, I am really tired..

When looking at these numbers why didn't the Big XII go after AZ & ASU instead ending up with the PAC 10 robbing the Big XII? Beebe better be unemployed in a few weeks because if somehow the Big XII survives it was not because of Beebe it was dispite of Beebe.
