His vision was for ISU to become to Iowa what UNO is to UNL. He hired a president to do it as well (Eaton).
Too lazy to research tonight but google Neal Harl and WOI and that will be a good start.
Somebody else may be willing to share (Tornado or JHB)
IMO- his giving WOI away is criminal and he WAS absolutley SCUM This right here. Pomerantz was the worst sort of Hawkeye and Iowan. Instead of making U of I better, he tried to destroy ISU. **** that *****.

Who is Marvin Pomerantz? Also, what happened in the 80's and 90's in regard to ISU?

make ALL of the state schools the best they could be. He didn't appear to view it that way.

Like was mentioned before, he wanted to eliminate all the duplicate programs, and have a "University of Iowa" system. You would have had UI, UI-Ames, and UI-Cedar Falls. Like the Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska systems.
He also was a driving force behind selling WOI-TV. If you want to boil it down, it was basically because ISU had a TV station and UI didn't. Never mind that WOI wasn't really a profitable entity (there were issues with back taxes, IIRC). It was that ISU simply had the opportunity to have its own programming (academic and athletic) on TV, reaching a significant portion of the state.
It was a happy day among older Cyclone fans when he kicked the bucket.

It is crazy the ill-will ISU has had to face with-in the boarders of Iowa throughout the years.

I don't want to get this moved to the cave, but do y'all remember what governor gave full blessing to Marvin back in the late '80s / early '90's as Marvin unleashed his wrath on ISU?

I don't have any inside knowledge, but this seems like a real possibility. I'd give it at least a 10% chance.
My reading is that there is way less than a 10% chance. NO where has I ever read that ISU is even a possibility. Any Big 10 entry has to have the academics(except ND) but how many TV sets are added, IMHO will be the key. ISU does not add many TV sets. IF Nebby and Missou are added, that ends the BIg 12 in its current form.

Like weR138 said, I hope ISU has a BCS conference position locked up before the next governor is sworn in, because (assuming the polls hold) the battle on the academic side is going to be brutal enough. ISU doesn't need to be fighting wars on two fronts...
