Also interesting...
Simon suggested that the academic fit is still very important, maybe moreso than has been portrayed in publicly.
An athletic director with knowledge of the Big Ten's plans said he's been told the Big Ten would shut down its expansion at one school if that one school was Notre Dame.
And contrary to reports, Notre Dame is still listening to the Big Ten about possibly joining that league, the athletic director said. Notre Dame's governing board is apparently split down the middle on the decision.
The AD said the Big Ten is focusing solely on Notre Dame right now before addressing Nebraska or Missouri.
If academics mean something, then maybe they should replace Iowa with ISU.
I still think that Nebby and Mizzou have some kind of informal invitation to the Big 10 outside of whatever happens with ND. Why would those two risk their relationship with the conference if they had no cards to play?
Always has been. When this all started on mgoblog, there was a pretty reliable poster that said they were done if ND came. If it was any other team may go further but not if it was ND. I still think this whole deal has been about getting ND. The other offers partially were meant to put pressure on ND. When the talk prograssed to Super COnferences, that put more pressure on ND because teams will not want to play them out of schedule if they have 5-6 powerhouses in their own conference.
I like ISU's chances a little more after reading a couple of those quotes.
First group: Notre Dame, Mizzou and Nebraska
If all three accept,
Second group: Rutgers and ISU
I don't have any inside knowledge, but this seems like a real possibility. I'd give it at least a 10% chance.
With all due respect, you are not paying attention to how he gutted ISU in the late '80's and early 90's in hopes of INTENTIONALLY elevating Iowa to a higher status to ISU. ( IMO- he wanted to eliminate all programs at ISU that duplicate what was offered at Iowa)
His vision was for ISU to become to Iowa what UNO is to UNL. He hired a president to do it as well (Eaton).
Too lazy to research tonight but google Neal Harl and WOI and that will be a good start.
Somebody else may be willing to share (Tornado or JHB)
IMO- his giving WOI away is criminal and he WAS absolutley SCUM
