Re: Nebraska fans...ugh
Jason Peter isn't in jail? That really is surprising.
As for Nebraska, sorry, the Huskers really are not that special anymore. Did they really have to hire a mouth-breathing coach who constantly has his nostrils flared?

Re: Nebraska fans...ugh
The only reason that NU and UI would become a big rivalry (I agree w/ this) is because realignment would kill a budding NU/ISU rivalry in the craddle.
Having NU in the same conference would supplant ISU as Iowa's biggest rival because the game would matter more. If anyone thinks ISU is not Iowa's biggest rival they should check out HN. I've read the exact question, "Who's our biggest rival" and by far ISU gets the most response. Personally, I think it's Wisconsin that Iowa should circle on the schedule every year but that's what I see on the outside looking in.
The more we talk about realignment the more it bums me out that Earle left for tOSU. Had he not I think NU/ISU would be a serious rivalry today.

Re: Nebraska fans...ugh
Once Neb starts dominating (and they will within 10 years), Iowa fans will pretend they don't care and stop hyping it up just like they do with their basketball team and any other sport they don't win at.

Just to be clear; in your studied opinion NU/ISU has recently initiated a rivalry even though they are in bordering states and have been in the same conference for 100 years?
And that this recently formed rivalry being nipped in the bud is the only reason that Iowa/NU would become a big rivalry?
Am I reading you right?

Tonight the new guy had on the cracked-out former husker Jason Peter on his show and they were talking about how nebraska and iowa would be one of the great rivalries in college football if they were in the same conference. I'm serious, they made mention that iowa doesn't have a true rival and nebraska would fit the bill. I mean, how could they not, they are bordering states! He made mention of how Minnesota and iowa isn't a heated rivalry and never made mention to Iowa State.
Seriously, this state just got more annoying to live in. Originally Posted by Sportstalkmatt It's true. We'll trade you a Matt Seigel for a Matt Perrault.....seriously.

Am I reading you right? I think it has mainly "started" because it has only recently become competitive again.

Strating off I woudl ike to say that anyone who has to resort to having Jason Peter on their show should never be taken seriously.
Second of all, why is this an automatic rivalry? Iowa has been playing Wisky for years and that isn't a huge rivalry. Same with Illinois and Minnesota. Same with Michigan, OSU and PSU. What makes you think this become a rivalry so quickly?
I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

Am I reading you right? Not quite. One school took football far more seriously than the other for around seventy of those years. Once ISU figured out it might be a good idea to take football more seriously they hired John Majors; you're obviously a student of history so you know what he started at ISU and you also know that his successor was Earle Bruce ( a continuation of ISU's new found "serious about football" attitude). Earle proved that ISU can compete with and beat NU and do it in Lincoln.
After Bruce's departure ISU took a huge step backward; bad administration, bad coaching, bad luck but When Gene Smith got hired as AD in the 90's we started to turn it back around. Now we have a football coach who has proven that he can win in Lincoln. Sadly, because of realignment we might not be able to see ISU/NU become a true rivalry because the series might end.
The reason NU/UI would become a big rivalry, imo, is because right off the bat both teams would be top twenty (maybe top ten) programs.
More clear?

Because Nebraska fans have a complex that they aren't the game on anyone's schedule. They have no rival, none. When NU/OU died so did a piece of every husker fan. For years they have been trying to say Missouri is their biggest rival (even though the Tigers have KU), Colorado (even though they have Colorado State), Oklahoma (even though they have Okie State and Texas) and so on. It's very sad. Nebraska needs UNO to go D-I so they can become rivals. Either that or Creighton needs to get a football team.

Re: Nebraska fans...ugh
If NE goes to the Big 10 they will no longer have any traditional rivals. They will have to manufacture one with Iowa or Michigan or some other Big 10 team. This will just be a media/greed driven rivalry. Potentially not a rivalry at all if one team ends up dominating the other. My suspicion is that Bo will get out coached by Ferentz. I may even root for Iowa in that game if the Big 12 blows up and ISU gets left behind. I have to admit saying that makes me a little sick to the stomach.

I think this guy is referring to rivals within the conference (i.e. Big 10)

Not OU anymore.

In all honesty, I do not think that Nebraska has ever considered us a rivalry. I do think that a Nebraska - Iowa yearly matchup would be a very heated one very very fast. Yes, a lot of Iowa fans consider Wisconsin a big rivalry, but especially in Central and Western Iowa that Iowa/Nebraska gave would be huge.
