What Big 12 schools are "officially" required to be in the same conference?
I know that a sufficient amount of political wrangling could tie any schools together, but are there schools that are required to be in the same conference by existing laws, or agreements etc.?
Supposedly there is some agreement between KU and KSU? Is this verified?
How about OU/OSU?
Are any of the Texas schools required to be in the same conference?

As far as I can tell, none of the above.

I believe KU and KSU are tied by some legislature agreement.

Hi guys, Sooner here been lurking since the **** hit the fan.
There are NO ties between OU/OSU, its a myth. To my knowledge this is only a Texas phenomenon

I don't think there's anything formal that KSU/KU or OSU/OU have to remain together. The probably haven't had to worry about it for 50 years or whenever the Big 8 was formed.
But they're all state schools and hence have some political clout. And that's about all a legislature can do to influence a conference. And they have reason to do so, as we are seeing with what may happen to ISU.

Something like that...

I am pretty sure that Texas and Texas A & M have to be in the same conference.

I'm pretty sure the Texas thing is true. You know Texans and their sports.

For example, if the Pac-10 offered OU but not OSU, would your state legislature or body that governs the universities try to intervene in any way?

My take after several lame threads on our future is that we need to join the finest bball conference around, because it looks like the Big Ten and PAC 10 have the inside rope on football revenues and membership.
Let's get Memphis, KU, KState, BYU, Louisville and others in a bball conference. Remember awhile back we claimed to be a bball school.
We now have a nice group of bball coaches to help out our mission. Go get 'em, JP.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
