Big XVI?

Not much to offer except what has already been said. Nobody from the power conferences are going to come to the B12. Now raiding some of the lessor conferences "might" be reasonable but given the lack of leadership in the B12 right now I don't see it happening. What it would take is for the conf leadership to stand up and do what is best for the conference instead of letting UT call the shots.

If that were to happen the best way to expand would be TCU, CSU, Utah, BYU, UNLV, etc from Mtn West or Cincy or Memphis, Tulane from the east/south.

If Big XII falls to 4 teams I would be interested in adding 6-8 of the following:
Cincinatti
Utah
BYU
TCU
Memphis
Loisville
Maybe Houston
West Virgina
Arkansas (would need better deal than SEC

Not likely's
Any of what's left of Big East
(UCONN, USF, Syracuse...)
Marquette and G-town for bball?
Colorado State

1) Iowa. Almost certainly never gonna happen but isn't it a little unusual for 2 BCS schools in 1 state to be in different conferences?
2) Minnesota. Geography makes sense at least.
3) TCU. Find another Texas school and we could have the "Texas" division and the "others" division.
4) Tennessee?
5) Auburn? (I just giggled at that.)
6) Arkansas?
7) LSU?
8) Kentucky?

I seem to be going entirely based on geography.

There is a reason that schools are leaving the big 12 and not coming into the Big 12.

They have it, we do not.

Such a move would require forward thinking and leadership, two things that seem to be sadly lacking the Big 12 offices.

I think it's interesting that everyone assumes the Big 10 network will continue to be hugely disporportionally lucrative in comparison to whatever other conferences can come up with. This is probably the absolute best time for the Big 10 to consider expansion -- schools will look at the current state of TV revenue and not think that in 3-6 years it may be even or perhaps upside-down.

If we lost two from the North... why not invite the Arizona schools and move the Oklahomas to the North?

Not sure if it's beneficial for the Zona schools... but maybe if we got our own network going... I like the idea of sniping some Pac 10 schools. We've been one of the top BCS conferences in performance for a bit now... you'd think with a few Pac 10 schools we could get a pretty strong TV contract ourselves...

Once again, that would require the kind of proactive, forward-thinking Big 12 leadership has not shown that they are capable of.

Cutting through your chafe of a list, a prioritized group to ask to join to find top four:
TCU (Texas insurance to not break up league),
Boise State (blue field),
Utah (good bball),
Houston (major metro),
SMU (we already have Baptist Baylor),
BYU (good fball/fair bball),
Tulane (good recruiting),
Louisville (eastern connection and has good fball/bball potential).

Not making the cut in my book for various reasons:
Memphis (bad football),
Northern Illinois (new recruiting area),
New Mexico and NMState (too Alford and The Pit is too tough for KU),
Tulsa (two many Okie schools already),
Arkansas (new SEC TV pact),
CSU (cannot even get fans to CU games),
Iowa (fans are too obnoxious/obstreperous),
Minnesota (too cold).
