Who's high pitched voice did I hear alluding to how ISU would best be served to be in the MVC based on being able to compete? Must have been CW.

I am really kind of hoping college football blows up and we have to start from scratch. We have teams that get picked over better teams to go to better bowls, (Iowa and ISU are both very guilty of this), conferences that are trying to cash grab tv markets and stomp on anything that stands in their way. College football has become more and dirty than a a porn set.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum....

    Facepalm.
Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

If ISU is forced to join some inferior league(I am in no way rooting for this), here is one positive thing: maybe interest in college athletics in central IA will be drastically reduced (apathy from ISU fans) and low ratings will force clowns like Perrault out of a job.

    There's some lemonade I guess........

That's not pandering, but that you felt it was says more about you and your position on ISU. The reality is that ISU deserves its spot in a BCS conference. Revisit the 10 year review in that article. The State of Iowa should be proud to have two schools in major conferences. That fact that ISU is in this position isn't just bad for ISU, it is bad for the State of Iowa. Like Kansas, it appears that the State is not viewed as important as many others in the world of college sports/television. That anyone in the state would delight in this is sad.

There was a thread on here in support of UNI's athletic program; when there were talks of it possibly not being able to receive money from the state. I would hate to see UNI's program have to drop down too, because it would reflect poorly on UNI and the State as a whole. Where are you from again?

Whether it's a community service project, or through practice or winning a bowl game, but you don't do that without the kids believing and being all in, and going out there and accomplishing all [of] the goals and expectations that we set." - Coach Paul Rhoads

Nobody has a "right" or is deserving to be in a BCS conference. Nobody has a "right' to anything in college sports...it's what you can earn and provide. Nobody is discounting Iowa State from an athletic angle....Iowa State has a better sports history than say South Florida....

This is about MONEY and TV. Greed essentially. You can flip through your Iowa State yearbooks all you want about this team or that...but it's not going to help you in this situation.

Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas State - all in the same position - spectators to see who wants you after the dust settles.

Pandering.....thats a Stretch Armstrong type stretch.....Also if you didn't you see the all of the statistics that showed winning and losing? 5-5 against UI in football? 5-6 against UI in basketball, 6 Bowl Games, 2 Big 12 Titles in basketball .....I'm sure the last parts have to deal with "THE PLAY ON THE FIELD"......

Surprisingly great blog post. I wish every Hawk fan could read it. I know that's asking a lot (Hawk fans reading), but...

I understand how this could be viewed as straight pandering, but if you have the full back story you would know it can not be.

Hlas was a pandering jack*** when he predicted Stanzi to go from 17 TD's and 15 INT in 2009 to 27 TDs and 5 INTs in 2010. (see the discussion in the In-state forum if you like). If you dont want to read through it I will get to the point. THH rightly points out the Hlas in an opinion columnist. He is giving his opinion here too. However; in this Blog he uses past facts to prove his point rather than future wishful thinking.

This isn't pandering because The Gazette is completely biased, and Hlas is one of the ring leaders. Always has, always will. They are a joke for sports coverage other than the U of I, they get the whole section. (the win over Nebraska was on page three that following Sunday).

He cant be pandering because the severe majority of Cyclone fans on this side of the state either dont read the Gazette because they are tired of the slant, or use the sports section for kennel liner/paper mache/urinal target practice. Can not pander to an audience that has long since stopped paying attention to you.

And this is where you are not realizing the picture. ISU has earned a spot in a BCS conference. By going 5-5 in football against one of the big 10's upper teams, by WINNING 2 season (not tourney, the whole freaking season) conference championships in basketball, and by significantly improving the level of play in numerous other sports ISU has earned the right to compete at the highest level. You know that anymore money is the deciding factor, with TV being one component of this. But college athletics is about the level of play. ISU has proven they can and should be in a BCS conference. Not just in football, but in all of the other sports too. How many programs have knocked off Nebraska at home in football and Kansas at home in basketball in the same decade. NOT VERY MANY.

While that may be true, your tone, vioce inflections and half truths imply that isu is second class citizen that belongs in the MAC. I think the blog should be read on the air.
