It's a great writeup Brent. And I agree with your premise.

But something has to be wrong with that number. Average contribution per seat is $62.50? At Nebraska? Oh well, it's on USAToday is it is.

Looking at their renewal process, it appears to be more stingent than ours.

Or maybe MBB has picked up the slack for us? Costs a pretty penny to get in parquet here, and well, they don't go.

But Matt told me on-the-field performance does not matter :)

The decision is aggregate of factors, the only one of which NU out preforms ISU is in "brand" (interestingly enough, derived from a time when NU was the only school treating college football as big business). Apparently that is enough to gain an invite.

Re: Is Iowa State a 2nd Class Citizen?

Again, I realize Iowa State doesn't match up with Nebraska from a tradition, recognition and brand standpoint. And Nebraska probably has generated more $$ in the last year with the Pelini's and Osborne in the fold. But if it's solely TV sets...I'm not sure Iowa State is that far behind...IF performance isn't factored.

That said, Iowa State's zero conference titles since 1912 struggle against Nebraska's 5 national championships.

Funny, I haven't met an Iowa State fan outside of Iowa

There are Nebraska season ticket holders in every state except Rhode Island.

Brent, this looks like it shows where the school generates its revenue from. Each school could have a different way of accounting thus showing some skewed #'s, i believe what you are comparing is where the percentage of the athletic budget comes from. The true number to look at is the subtotal operating revenue. In that case NU is at 75 mill and we are at 46 mill.

Nebraska drives ratings numbers. Their bowl games and their Thursday night ESPN game agains Missouri have drawn huge numbers for the time slots and station they are on. I've tried to look up the numbers somewhere, but can't find them. I just know the journalstar always has a little blurb after the games about how the TV ratings were either the best ever for that time slot or in the top 5. Nebraska has struggled as of late, but they still are a national football brand. That is the only reason they are targeted by the Big 10.

Then how can you consider your fanbase to be truly national?!!?

Neat little fact I guess. ISU has alumni in every state in the US, including Road Island.

Good find. Those tables appear to be organized chaos. In the end the bottom line is all that matters.

Nebraska has alumni in every state too, including Rhode Island. I know this because my brother-in-law lives there and is one. I'm trying to push him into becoming a season ticket holder so he can become famous in Nebraska for completing the season ticket holder in every state bit.

That was the day after the FSU game. Until then, I had never EVER met a casual fan of ISU that didn't go there or know someone that did.

You will meet UNL fans everywhere because of national appeal. That is the obvious answer to this thread. ISU is considered 2nd class by our own conference.

Until we see ISU stuff in Skymall with the other 12 usual suspects, we have our answer as to why UNL is bigger (and supposedly better)... that is why this is a duh thread... and a mod should know better

Ha. I knew it was probably a losing battle. I appreciate the logical discussion. Which is sometimes hard to find.

He didn't really ask if they were bigger and better. He acknowledged that. He was simply pointing to a few numbers that could indicate we aren't as far behind as some think we are.
