Notre Dame could fix everything
Pat Forde's article on ESPN is very interesting. If Notre Dame decided to go to the Big Ten now all expansion would esentially be over. I think the Big Ten would stop at 12 teams, Neb and Mizzou would have to stay in the Big 12, and the Texas schools would not join the Pac 10. The thing is ND is going to hold out long enough for the Big East to get raided by the Big Ten and be forced to join as team #16. They are going to end up in the Big 10 so just join now and end all the nonsense. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, AD Jack Swarbrick ensnared in irrational time - ESPN -

I've been saying this as well, ND is our only hope.

Re: Notre Dame could fix everything
That was my thinking two days ago, but I get the feeling it's too late for ND to be the only addition. I think Nebraska is going to the Big 10 no matter what.

Re: Notre Dame could fix everything
Yup
And this is why no formal invitation has been sent out to Nebraska. Nebraska would be a good get, but the Big 10's prize is Notre Dame and everybody knows that.
You would think Notre Dame almost has to join this time or risk being left out when the "super duper extra special mega conferences" are born. Then again, Notre Dame has quite the ego so who knows.............

Well, since ND seems to like the number 12, I know a conference that will be needing a 12th if NU bolts for the Big Ten...

That would be the ultimate kick to the stones to the Big 10 now wouldn't it??

Re: Notre Dame could fix everything
I'm really hoping God calls Jack Swarbrick and tells him to allow ND to join the Big Ten under the one condition that the Big Ten takes no other teams.

Re: Notre Dame could fix everything
ND is in a catch-22. They don't want to join the B10, but if they had to they want it to be a 12 team conference. If they wait too long they will end up joining a 16 team conference.

I'm going to my happy place now to enjoy these thoughts for a few minutes...

Re: Notre Dame could fix everything
ND could end this all - but first they'd have to get over their arrogance and pride to do so, and I just don't see that happening.

And he's the president at Notre Dame, a huge Catholic school. WWJD? -

Great article. Thanks for posting!
Jack Swarbrick -- what a nut job.
What I don't get is that ND prizes it's independence so much? ND is only independent in one sport. That's not an independent to me. If you truly want what is best for ND and ALL of Notre Dame's student athletes then join the Big Ten and stop any further Big Ten expansion. The money and prestige will remain with Notre Dame.
