Advertisers absolutely do give a crap about the ratings of the show theyre advertising in. The reason it may not matter is if they create their own network after the big 10 model and make the majority of the money off of cable subscribers.

Running an organization based on how much money can be made doesn't sound like non-profit to me.

Ratings are pretty constant when it comes to NCAA football...how many tv sets does your network reach is now the million dollar question.

Mike Landry was on the radio last night, and said the Big Ten is not interested in Rutgers.

There's a slim chance that would put ISU in the Big Ten mix — but Missouri would be in, too ... ND, Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers; Louisville, Cincinnati.
I guess the bad thing is, mapping ISU's strategy seems to swing wildly with each move.
Bond w/ remaining Big 12 members and try to pluck MWC & C-USA teams for a new Big 12? Hope B-10 somehow considers ISU? Rip off the Band-Aid and hope MWC wants us?

But as has been mentioned, Texas "wants" to hold this conference together, and was the reason why they were pressuring Nebraska to stay in. If Texas was willing to snub a Pac 10 invite and all the $$$ that came with it if Nebraska was willing to stay with the conference, then that Fox Sports deal had to be extremely lucrative. The question has been raised what possible school could replace Nebraska, their 80,000 seat stadium, the $75 million in revenues generated, and its extremely large fan base (despite its small state size).
If the Fox Sports deal were so lucrative that Texas was willing to keep the conference together if Nebraska were to stay, would it possibly be lucrative enough to spring LSU and Arkansas from the SEC?
Like I said, this is an extreme pipe dream, and I get that. But while the Texas and Oklahoma schools make sense in a football TV revenue sense, it makes absolutely no sense if the Texas women's swimming team has to travel to Pullman, WA in the dead of winter. That kind of traveling is eventually going to eat into the take that would be the gigantic TV revenue that they would see.

Our fate likely depends on whether Texas is serious about keeping the Big 12 alive in some form, or if they are just putting on a show while they pee in our cereal and sneak out the back door.
The fact that UT and A&M--and no one else--are having a meeting about "saving the Big 12" should tell us what we need to know.

Louisville and Cincinnati are not in the mix as neither are AAU schools (the Big 10 is holding fast to that to give the appearance of giving a damn about academics).
However, Maryland is being mentioned, and I can't believe Virginia isn't being mentioned as a package deal with them.
