Kansas goes no where without K-State.

Re: Kansas to Pac 10 if A&M doesn't accept?
Hi Guys -
KU Grad here, searching around for tidbits on whats next for all of us in the leftover 5...
You guys have a good board here and I was just was going to pass along the specifics of what I know related to KU and its specific situation:
1. There is NO law forcing KU & Kstate to stick together - however, there will be some politics to overcome in a scenario if KU were to head to a different conf. than Kstate KU-KSU: 'Til death do us part? | CJOnline.com
KU's basketball tradition is the biggest selling point for either school, which raises the possibility that conferences could target the Jayhawks ahead of K-State. Though state leaders have expressed a desire to keep the schools united, no legal bond exists.
"There is no state law, no Board of Regents policy that would require KU and K-State be members of the same conference," said Kip Peterson, a spokesman for the Kansas Board of Regents. "Looking at the statement released by the board, which is the governing body for K-State and KU, they feel it is in the state's best interest and those institution's best interest for them to remain tied together."
2. KU would take the PAC-10/11/16 bid if offered - this is a Best Case scenario. The stability of the conference, the money from TV contracts all make it more appealing than a worse case Big East scenario. Regardless of if the Big East is the better BBall conference, there are a two main reasons this is less desirable:
a. If/when Big 10 decides to go on 16 - those schools are likely coming from Big (Pitt, Syr, Rutgers) - creating conference instability yet again
b. PAC 10/11/16 has better academics. As an AAU member school, KU better fits into the academic profile of the Pac 10/11/16 - not saying this to be boastful, certainly Cal, Stan, UCLA are in a different class. However, should aTm not accept, Utah is not an AAU school. Further, I have read both UCLA/Cal/Stan. prefer KU to Utah.
With all that said, this whole situation sucks and sucks bad. I know I don't make the decisions, but as far as I am concerned, my fingers are crossed that aTm goes to the SEC and the second they turn down the Pac10/11/16 that KU leadership is down on their knees pleading for that life vest.
I'm not counting on that scenario to pass, I'm sure cooler heads will prevail in College Station. As has been said on here already, the MWC or Big East are the most likely scenarios for KU at this point as distasteful as that is. <just typing that last sentence made me want to throw up>

Then you would have a 3 pack to offer.

They will offer KU seperately, if needed, to keep Baylor out of the mix.

WE NEED TO BEAT UTAH to prove a point this fall.
Now CPR needs to beat UI, NU, UT, CU, OU, Utah, all in one year. C-Willy needs to take some trips.

I think conferences might be a little tenative moving towards a 16 team super conference. More teams equals more ways to split the money and new blood which might cause a little friction to the schools who have already been in the conference. 12 is the ideal number.

SEC has been mentioned with TAMU. Theres a big divide down there whether to stay with the texas schools or to go SEC.
I dont think the SEC really needs to expand all that much. Theyve got a great tv contract, and really need to pick the right team if they are going to expand to not dilute their earnings. TAMU gets the SEC into texas, so it would bring a ton of value.
I also dont necessarily think that everyone HAS to go 16 just because one conference does. We've had 12 team conferences for awhile, and it didnt force the pac10, big10, or big east to 12 (in fb at least for BE). I also agree with you that 12 is the ideal number, and i think those leagues that do go to 16 could see a lot of divisiveness in their conferences, much like we have seen with the big 12.

That part got me thinking. It's not how big the conference is, it's how much money each team makes from TV thats more important. If each team in a 16 team conference is making the same as a 12 team conference, then everything is equal in that respect.

Count on this, whatever happens it will be the worst possible scenario for ISU. Man, how much grief can come to one school?
Always remember fellow Cyclone fans, for whatever reason or reasons, God HATES Iowa State.
