Re: Is Missouri to blame?
You are all to blame by continuing to subscribe to cable and satellite providers that carry the Big Ten Network as part of the basic package. The windfall revenue that resulted from what essentially is a hidden Big Ten Network tax on the typical American has created this money grab. Each cable subscriber in the Big 10 footprint, sports fan or not, pays around $10 a year to that network. With millions of subscribers, the total revenue is a game changer. Satellite subscribers also pay at a substantially lower rate, but the number of subscribers nationwide results in another huge revenue stream.
I dropped back to broadcast basic when Mediacom caved to the Big 10 Network, as I couldn't in good conscious see any my money going to support ISU's rival.

I think everyone understood that at the time that the Big Ten's effort to force BTN onto basic cable was going to be a game changer in terms of conference alignment. It was going to force an arms race toward conference TV channels which is a big part of what this re-alignment stuff is all about.

The cool thing about CF is that it turns all of us into investigators and it'd be nice if the guy who found it before CW could also get credit (since his thread was largely ignored and this one is already a 2 pager).

Re: Is Missouri to blame?
Why are we still searching for someone to blame. We are screwed because we're not good enough (by whatever parameter). And for that, we can't blame anybody. You think Nebraska, TT, A&M, UT, Colorado, OU and OSU are sitting around now blaming people?
We're not good enough. Maybe it's lack of ability. Maybe it's a lack of capacity. Maybe we didn't try hard enough. Maybe we did. Regardless- it didn't work out for us.
And I'm sure you'll continue to support ISU no matter which conference we end up in. As will I. If we end up in a conference, that is.

Re: Is Missouri to blame?
The University of Texas should probably yield a majority of the blame. It was within their power to go along with a Big XII Network, similar to the Big Ten Network, and they refused on the grounds they wanted to expolore the possibility of their own network. As a result, the league's revenues fell behind other major conferences. They will also be the school that gives the league the death blow on Tuesday June 15th, 2010.
