Is Missouri to blame?

Texas and Nebraska are getting a ton of attention here and rightfully so. But based off of what I have heard through the grape vine, a lot of higher ups in the Big 12 think that at the root of this entire problem, Missouri's disloyalty to the Big 12 is really what started this whole mess.

Here's an interesting piece that I dug up out of Columbia this morning. It kind of touches on that theory.

It is fairly clear that Nebby went full bore looking after the shenanigans of MU and UT made them realize that Big 12 was unstable. It was very strange to see that was their spiel yesterday.

What about Colorado? They've been rumored to court the PAC-10 for a while...they were just not as vocal.

I don't think you can pin it on one team.

I still put a lot of the blame on texas. Missouri may have played with matches a bit too close to the fuse next to the pile of dynamite, but Texas, through the 15 years of the big 12, has done a lot to create the situation that built that dynamite pile.

This. They've been working it for years and it finally came through for them. Blame goes to MU, CU, NU, and UT nearly equal IMO.

I just read some mizzou postings over at rockmnation.com. Thei view seems to be that yes, they did act excited but mizzou always does, and in the end it never works out for them. Examples I can think of: the five down game vs Colorado, the kick ball catch vs Nebraska. Basically the real power brokers are trying to find a scapegoat and it's Missouri.

I really agree with everything in that article. Not saying it would've kept it all from collapsing, but if Mizzou would've said "We're committed to the Big 12" a month ago, we could be looking at adding our own 4 teams instead of all on life boats in a sea of doom!!

While everyone is quick to point fingers there is only one man to blame for this mess and that's Dan Beebe. That ***bag never once did anything proactive, the minute someone caught wind of a possible BIG10 network he should have been doing his homework on what a network could do for this now defunked conference. My guess is that he got greedy and was taking kick backs from alumni from all over the state of Texas, while northern schools ******* and moaned about losing ground in the TV revenue race. He sat on his hands and now will go down as nothing more than a puppet.

I still think Texas is to blame. They put the cracks in the foundation long ago. The other schools knew a total conference network was not going to happen because Texas did not want it to happen, they wanted their own network. This is why the former commissioner left the Big 12. This was his vision, he gave it to the Big 10 and now he is giving it to the Pac 10 - 11 - 16 or whatever.

Texas has been trying to point fingers to everyone else. They are to blame and always have been. They are a cancer. I truly do not think Texas will stop until they are independent with their own network. They will have the money, power, population and prestige to make it happen. Yes, they are beyond Notre Dame.

That's some low level belly-button lint examination on their part that does not even come close to the truth.

The right question to ask is what did they do to save the Big XII? If they pledged allegiance as soon as the request was made - Like ISU did - their hands would be clean(er) They still don't get a pass though due to all their public "whoring" of themselves to the Big 10 a few months back and whining.

For having a "respected" J school, I would have thought they would be a little more media savvy than the show they exhibited. They not only embarrassed themselves athletically, but this unforced error really is a blemish on their J school.
