One quick thought on rivalries
I am putting together this morning's links and what not...It got me to thinking...
Think of how intense some of the football games in the Big 12 will be this year. I mean, Nebraska and Texas is normally nuts. What's it going to be like in Lincoln in October?
What about Texas - Texas A&M?
Nebraska @ Iowa State?
It doesn't matter what ultimately happens to the Big 12 from here. A lot of people are mad. A lot of lies have been told. It's time to put up or shut up.
It's on.
Re: One quick thought on rivalries
It's going to be brutal, in hoops as well. On the field and the stands I'm guessing.
Re: One quick thought on rivalries
Wonder how many people are looking forward to the "Traditional Rose Bowl" with Texas as the HOME team from the Pac Conference and Nebraska from the Big Ten? :wideeyed:

Very good point Chris. My husker hate will match my hawk hate this year for the first time ever.
Re: One quick thought on rivalries
I would love the conference to send Nebraska off with a mediocre season. That would prove that NU can fit right in with the mediocre football teams in the Big Ten.

Should be really fun. I cannot wait.

Yep, I'm in the same boat. I honestly did spend a few minutes thinking about it seriously, and have NO idea who I could cheer for to win when they play each other. I sure as hell Texas puts a 70-point curbstomping on them, and I hope we thrash them soundly in our house. I don't usually wish injuries on opposing teams, but I wouldn't mind seeing some Huskers' seasons (not careers!!) end early this year.
Re: One quick thought on rivalries
What what Nebraska/Colorado will be like. Maybe instead of playing a football game, they'll lounge around drinking chardonnays and congratulating each other on punking the rest of the Big 12.
Re: One quick thought on rivalries
My thoughts? If Big 12 referees are anything like the Big East referees upon the departure of BC, VT, and Miami upon leaving for the ACC, Nebraska may not even get to the Big 12 championship game - as in according to some of the Big East visitors on this site the refs often turned a blind eye to what would have been considered dirty play, or, at the very least, their opponents were getting favorable calls. Not only is there bitterness towards Nebraska, but most of the schools may be getting their last crack to humiliate Nebraska - and the refs may be willing to oblige, particularly if their opponent is playing them particularly close anyway. With the way Nebraska has burned their bridges I just can't imagine anyone associated with the Big 12 cutting them a break, and while beforehand I figured them easily the favorite to be the North champion, now it would not surprise me at all if they're not.
Re: One quick thought on rivalries
Hit them coming off the bus.
Re: One quick thought on rivalries
I was wondering if UT and aTm would still play each other non conference. I would think if they go their own ways that they would still meet every year.

I never thought of the fact that the Big XII refs who are about to be out of a job pretty soon might want to give NU the old FU!

UT threatened with no meetings if they did not go Pac10 over the weekend. Their grand scheme may crumble. If SEC football goes into state of Texas, that means Pac Ten network is worth less.
I blame ABC/ESPN Big ten/Pac Ten for going after CBS SEC deviously and causing the turmoil.
I believe UT wants a TV contract like ND has with NBC. Nebby did not like that approach and left the table. CU could not compete financially in the league recently.
The Fox $170M contract was too slow to develop. ABC and CBS are beating them to the punch.

Yeah, but if that happens, the Big 12 truly isn't worth saving at that point. In fact, I'm convinced it may not be worth saving now.

The good thing here is that even if the conference stays together, we are all ticked off at each other so it will intensify everything going forward, not just for next year.
So even with a revised Big 12, it will be invigorated.
