The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
Who do you believe? Chip Brown (Texas is committed to the Big 12/10) or Joe Schad (turn out the lights the party is over)?
The short answer: both are right.. and that is bad news for the rest of the conference.
Texas will be announcing today that they are committed to the Bebee plan and a '10' team Big 12. The only problem: Texas A&M is already out the door for the SEC and Texas knows it.
With only '9' teams and no A&M there is no Bebee plan and no more Big 12.
So yes, Texas will be committing its allegiance to the Big 12 today, but only because they know that it is already dead. Once A&M announces they are leaving for the SEC they (A&M) will be painted as the villain for putting the final nail in the coffin of the Big 12 and Texas, and company, will be free to move on to the Pac 10... which is what they have wanted all along.
Re: The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
not sure if I believe that
Re: The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
I could see this happening.
Re: The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
Yep, I think this is what is going to happen too.

Re: The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
wow yea this sounds like some truth
Re: The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
Definitely think this is possible.
I just cannot believe A&M is willing to depart from the only thing keeping them somewhat relevant. Of course their little brother syndrome with Texas is worse than ours with Iowa.
Re: The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
AustinCyclone -- Unfortunately, you are exactly right.
Re: The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
I believe Texas would rather stay in the Big 12 than have A&M in the SEC.

Me neither.

A&M would be destroyed in the SEC. I'm just really not at all sure why they want to move at this point, with a good TV deal (possibly) on it's way. I could see the Texas legislature shackling A&M for the greater good (the Texas Network).
Let's not forget about the Texas Network. I think that's a bigger wildcard than A&M here. The more I think about it, the less likely I think Texas is to leave for this one reason.

What makes this even worse, if it's possible, is with A&M to the SEC, the 4 remaining schools (TU, TT, OU and OSU) give the Pac 10 ONLY 15 teams. They are one short. Are they going to go after Utah OR Kansas to fill 16??
If Kansas, we are totally screwed.
Re: The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
Well, aTm really doesn't cost us much because the TV stuff is all about chargeable households and they bring nothing more than Texas does.

I can't either. Which is why I think if they continue to persist with the SEC talk, the TX legislature will get involved and somehow block the move.
Re: The Real Story: From The Belly of the Beast
It is hard for me to believe A & M wants to leave if Texas stays and with the Memphis offer we only need one more team to have 12 again.
