During the Texas conference they said the FOX contract has a 4 year option to extend until 2016 and that's what they plan to do, so in 2016 we'll probably be going through this again unless they're large punishments for leaving the Big 12. We have to get our **** together in the next few years.
“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.” "I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.
Listening to the press conference...I am really not feeling very comfortable with some of his answers.
1. No new tv contract.
2. New money is based on projects and analysis not commitments from media outlets.
3. Tech has yet to commit.
4. No new exit penalties...at least not yet.
5. New cable TV deal probably wouldn't get done until the spring and over the air until 2015-2016...when do we get the new money?!
I read where ESPN/ABC renegotiated the deal effective immediately and put more money in to keep the Big 12 conference going.
They said that ESPN did this because Fox Sports was going to own the new Pac 16 Conference deal and in the future could effectively make ESPN irrelevant in the college football world.
Now ESPN owns ALL of the highly coveted Central Time Zone. Costs more money now for ESPN. But remember that Fox indirectly owns Direct TV and almost half the Big Ten Network. And Fox was behind the Pac 10 expansion.
