Throw everybody off, plus add some nostalgia value and call it "The Crazy Eights"...
Seriously, I lean toward keeping it the Big Twelve and have an eye toward adding two teams at some point. It's not unprecedented that conferences don't have the actual number of teams that their name suggests.
If we do end up with a new name then I agree we should avoid use of any number in the name. And I agree with the idea of keeping the "Big" part. But it is hard to come up with a catchy and descriptive word to follow. The Big Midwest, The Big Central, The Big Heartland, The Big Prairie... none of them sound that good and/or borrow too much from other existing conference names (or even Laura Ingalls Wilder books). I kind of like the sound of "The Big River" conference in reference to the Mississippi River but then we'd just have to add Arkansas and LSU.
