um yeah......er no. nebraska actually does not switch non conference schedules year to year. our schedule is done about 5 years in advance sometimes even more. we currently already have games scheduled for 2018 and we are looking at a few for 2019-2020

I'd also take the wager on the Washington game. Lived on the West Coast last season and watched them play quite a bit. If they get their secondary up to par with the rest of the team they'll be a top ten team.
like i said, most teams schedule 1 (ONE) marquee game for the non con each season and NU is no different. like someone else said, washington was a top 10 team when we scheduled them and of course noone expected the other teams on our non con to be world beaters, Washington was our 1 marquee matchup and the rest are cupcakes.

lets do this wager then. say if NU wins then you buy and wear a Nebraska hat or shirt to work 1 day the following week and if washington wins then i will wear an ISU hat or shirt to work 1 day the following week?? must post a pic on cyclonefanatic.com

Not stupid to make a lot of money on hosting a full stadium on a team you're almost 100% sure to beat. I'd rather watch anything else than mismatches like those...which is why they're on PPV not cable tv.
Nebraska nearly made that mistake a few years back when they hosted Louisiana Tech. Tim Rattay was the qb and he threw for about 570 yards with a little over 400 of those going to Troy Edwards if I remember correctly. It was a high scoring game on both sides. Even with that win it was a major embarrassment for the Fuskers.

Rattay threw for 590 yards. Edwards had 21 catches for 405 yards.

SDSU-what can I say, they are moving up, but no match
Washington-5-7 last year, 0-12 the previous season

The Cornhuskers are taking no chances with their non conference schedule. I'd take that schedule for Iowa State in a minute.

I won't wager that game, but I'll do that wager for the Iowa State/kNU game. I also think you're wrong about most teams scheduling one big non conference game. You can't do that anymore with RPI being so important at the end of season for some of the big players. Haven't looked at the schedules for next season, but am heading that way. I'll bet teams like Ohio State and Florida have at least two big non con games.

Here's what I've come up with so far (some may not be "big" games, but are BCS teams and/or ranked teams):

    Oklahoma: Penn St, @Cincy
    Georgia: @Colorado, Ga Tech
    Florida St: @Oklahoma, Florida, BYU
    USC: Notre Dame, Virginia, Minnesota
Pitt: @Utah, @Notre Dame, Miami (FL)
    Utah: Pitt, @ISU, @Notre Dame
    BYU: Washington, @Florida State
    Washington: @BYU, Nebraska, Syracuse
    Miami(FL): @Ohio State, @Pitt
    Iowa: Iowa State, @Arizona
    LSU: @UNC, West Virginia
    Ga Tech: @Kansas, @Georgia
    Michigan: UCONN, @Notre Dame
    Iowa State: @Iowa, Utah

Actually I don't think that's right. I went to huskers.com and the 2011 schedule includes Washington, Fresno State, and Wyoming. But whatever, an Appalachian State type game will happen to them eventually and it will be great!

Nebraska didn't drop anyone. IIRC Jeff Jamrog (Director of Football Ops who is doing most of the scheduling work) considered dropping South Dakota St, but didn't want to because of the signed contract already in place.

Also, I seem to recall when Jamrog took over the Director of Football Ops, he said something about Nebraska's non-conference scheduling process under Pederson was "all they are doing is scheduling wins". Bo as already said, he'll play anyone, anywere, anytime. I applaud Jamrog for the work he's doing in upgrading the non-con schedule. I cann't wait to have Miami come to Lincoln 2014

Edit: Nebraska does have one spot open for 2011 and at this late stage, i'm afraid it's going to be one of the Sun Belt teams or even a FCS team. There were rumors last weekend that Nebraska was going to play in the 2011 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic against an SEC team in Atlanta, but those rumors were shot down.

The teams that NU played in the Pederson era don't look that much different from their usual schedules. They played USC, Penn St, Wake Forest, Pitt..... what's wrong with those teams?

As many have said, most teams schedule one other BCS team and 3 easier teams. It appears Pederson was just following suit.

Expect for the USC outcomes,There's nothing wrong with those games. Those were good non-conference home and home series.

Except for VA Tech last year and Washington this year, the 2009 and 2010 Nebraska non-conference schedules are an embarrasement and I think that's what Jamrog was referring to.

Didn't NU routinely play Pacific during the Osbourne years, who ended up dropping football altogether? Were Husker fans up in arms about watching 60 point beatings of Pacific?

Have the Huskers added Boise State to their future non-con schedule? I remember reading awhile back that there was talks about having Nebraska host two games and travel to the smurf-turf for one. Or maybe I'm not remembering it right?
