Dan Beebe's primary goal was and is keeping his job. At the most, he has received a stay of execution. Tell me, just how many other name conferences are standing in line to hire him? The Big 12 was and is a powder keg just waiting to go off. If the athletic directors at Kansas State and Iowa State are not making alternative plans they are living in fantasy land. They best be cultivating relationships with their future brothers. Lew Perkins at KU has announced his retirement and is riding off into the sunset.
But SHOULDN'T his primary goal be keeping his job and therefore the conference intact? Honestly, the Big 12 probably has trouble hiring commissioners because of the revenue sharing and infighting. That's why Weiberg left.
I do think that the four North schools have a contingency plan in place. I don't know about the other ADs, but Pollard is a pretty smart guy and he is not really one to lack foresight. It does hurt that Perkins is retiring. I'm betting that he played a major part in whatever plan was put together.
Beebe kept firing blanks at CU and NU.
Don't keep the network deals together and Texas bolts. The reason Texas stayed was because the PAC 10 money came back less than what they originally thought. With the money the Big 12 is getting with NU and CU gone, it made financial sense for UT to stay. Beebe secured the Network deals would pay the same.
Beebe deserves some of the credit. People rag on him because of the TV deal, no revenue sharing, no Big 12 Network, etc. That fact is the Presidents and the ADs of the Universities have shot themselves in the foot. The ideas have been presented and they shoot hem down. The TV deal was good when it was negotiated but time has caught up. The Big 12 Network was proposed and shot down by the Universities themselves. Revenue sharing has been proposed and shot down by the Universities.
The real idiots in the Big 12 are the ADs and the Presidents. Look at Nebraska. If they would have voted for revenue sharing, they could have got a lot of other things they wanted. Instead the cried whined and took their ball and left
Yet the irrational, baseless Dan Beebe hate on CF will continue. He's not a smooth public speaker, and often you have to do a double-take after he says something at a press conference, but he gets blamed for WAY more than is his actually his fault or for things he actually has control over...
