Texas-BYU Series
Texas, BYU announce home-and-home series - ESPN Dallas
Am I the only one who finds it slightly odd that Texas is playing BYU and ND in the next few years?

Re: Texas-BYU Series
Maybe they want to talk both into joining the Big 12.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Texas-BYU Series
If BYU is going independent and getting a jump on filling their schedule, this is a big fish to land. Playing Texas will get each of the games on national TV

Re: Texas-BYU Series
Adding BYU and ND, who both have their own networks already, would be huge for the Big 12 and Texas knows it. I"d like to see both in the North!!

Who knows if it could ever happen, but our current ten +ND and BYU would be comparable with the SEC on the field, and superior in terms of $$$. Don't know if it would give the Big 12 more clout in terms of $ as the Big Ten but I'd have to think it would at least be very close.
Also if that were to happen, you'd have 5 conferences that were very rounded out at 12 for football... the MWC that as an improving conference at 12 if they add Houston as rumored... and somewhat fragile 8 team Big East with no real big football school left they could add with ND gone
If an 8 team playoff ever gets decided on using the 4 BCS bowls as a first round, my guess is that ND joins the Big East with sweetheart deals and that secures the Big East their now questionable auto bid. The question would then be if the MWC gets an auto bid with one at large spot or if there are just two at large spots knowing the MWC champ will get one many years. As it is, I'm not pleased at all that the Big East has an auto bid for its eight teams, they can practically luck into a BCS game while ISU basically needs to be an incredible team to get one. I'd be just as pleased stripping the Big East auto bid as I would be granting one to the MWC. Both remedy the same inequity.
Of course with BYU talking independent now the other angle is obviously that it's 3 potential independents playing each other and seeing if they want to permanently be 1/6 of their future schedules. At this point it doesn't seem far fetched.

Not really considering they will be independent in about 3 years along with ND and BYU.

Re: Texas-BYU Series
Can't believe BYU got a home-and-home deal out of it.

If just Colorado left I think they would have been a great 12th team. I just don't think they bring enough to be an 11th team. Basically, of the teams that have even a remote chance of interest in joining the Big XII only ND would make a good 11th team.

Re: Texas-BYU Series
So Texas, according to ESPN, just added a home and home against USC. This is in addition to their series with Notre Dame, the one with BYU, the one with Cal and the one with Ole Miss. I'm starting to think this is more of a move towards independence rather than just building a stronger schedule.

Stay with the big 12 long enough to give time to put the network together. In the meantime build up some deals that will carry over well to independence. In 5 years with the network up and running, go indy.

It could be that or I think they're just trying to get a preimere, attractive non-conference game for each season. Mack Brown said he wanted to beef up their non-conference schedules, sounds like it wasn't lip service

Re: Texas-BYU Series
TEXAS is just positioning themselves for a move to independent in the near future

Re: Texas-BYU Series
I wouldn't be too alarmed. The series with USC in 2017-18 fills in a gap in their future non-conference schedule, as illustrated here: Texas Longhorns Football Future Schedules
