I completely agree. The BW3's (3 different locations) have terribel service and mediocre wings. Lots of flavors, but the wings aren't the best quality.

Re: It's official! BWW is coming to Ames!!!
Love BWW or hate it, the good thing is its another option in Ames. I lived there from 2000-2009 and the city seemed to be anti-growth and new things hardly ever came. I hope this means more new eating or shopping options will be coming because the city needs them and can support them with a major college there

That being said, I live in a town that has 4 of them and quite honestly, completely overrated. In our era of every resturant having the sunday ticket and all the sports channels they really aren't special. Their wings and sauce are slightly above average but yea, it's exciting when they first show up.

What the heck is a weck?
I like BWW well enough. I'm not enough of a wing guy to have a strong opinion. They had good beer and was a good place to watch a game I thought.
Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving. -
Re: It's official! BWW is coming to Ames!!!
Nice! In addition to the wing deal on Thursday's I'm pretty sure there is also a deal on the tall glasses of Miller Lite (something like $3.25?). Of course it's not the greatest wings in the world, but they are consistently good, have lots of seating and lots of nice TVs. Always a good atmosphere to watch a game.

Bdubs FTW! They may not be the best but the variety keeps bringing me back. Just thinking about it I might head over there tonight after bowling league and grab some.

Re: It's official! BWW is coming to Ames!!!
I've never understood the fascination with these places. Last time I was in one was one of the original ones in Chicago, the night ISU beat Colorado to end up in the first Insight Bowl. I had so many bad experiences there, with terrible service, overcooked, undersized wings and just bad attitude over all, I've never bothered to step foot into another one since. The only reason I went at that time was that it was a CU fan bar and ended up being a good place to catch Big XII games. Other than that, I always thought there were 5 or 6 other places closer to where I lived that I could get better wings.

"Beef on Weck" sandwiches on menus. Roast Beef on a salty roll. Pretty good.

Re: It's official! BWW is coming to Ames!!!
I like BWW and am glad that they are coming. Good wings, a good place to watch a game. I won't be there every week, but it seems like a good place to get some take-out or to watch an ISU away game. I hope that it doesn't affect WCW...but they're on opposite sides of town and WCW can do things that BWW can't due to the franchise.
I agree with CyBroncos that Ames has seemingly fought this type of development in the past. I think that the new council is doing what they said they would with development. We're getting places like BWW, the new Fareway and Caseys in N. Ames, etc. It's nice to see some more options showing up. And if that means that some places like the Kwik Shop on Grand or Cub Foods or the bowling alley go out of business, well, they should have had a better business plan. BWW isn't cheating to take business away from others.

Re: It's official! BWW is coming to Ames!!!
The local BWW here in Raleigh is great on MMA fight nights, plus they are the only sports bar around that carries fights and doesn't charge a cover.
This local BWW does have two strikes against it in my book though.
1) They took down my picture from when I dominated their Blazin Challenge
2) Their $2.50 16oz beer is actually a 12 oz. I got into an argument with the manager about it. I then ordered a 12 oz bottle, and filled the glass in question to the brim with the 12 oz of beer right in front of him. He said "ya, I know" and walked away before I could blame him for false advertising.

Re: It's official! BWW is coming to Ames!!!
I'm actually surprised there hasn't already been a Bdubs in Ames. I mean, ISU isn't a huge school or anything, but it's equivalent in student population to UofI, and also fields DI athletics... you'd think putting in what is more or less a sports bar would be a good idea...
Though, to look back, the Bdubs in Iowa City is not really busy unless it's the weekend and there are games on or something.
