The only reason I stayed there for my 2nd year was because it was my roommate's and my last year in school and we didn't want to go through the trouble of moving again.
It could have gotten better, since I haven't lived there for a couple of years. But, when I was there, I'm pretty sure they changed mgmt about 3-4 times.

Do not go with University west. They screwed us every chance they got. Well apparently I don't

Thanks Don't live in West Ames, I don't know why anyone who is social would like to live there. My brother lived there, hated it... He warned me not to live out there but I didn't listen, I lived there last year, hated it... My roommate also hated it and I know of a ton of people who regretted living out there. Plus University West sucks compared to other property management companies. I always hating depending on a bus to get me to campus and having to go off of that schedule, being able to walk to class is much more valuable then one would think.
You can't put a price on getting hammered on Welch and staggering less than one block back home. If you like to get hammered and also like sleeping in your own bed after you get hammered without risking a DUI, walking for 45 minutes in the cold, or having to pay a taxi, then West Ames = so much fail.

Do not go with University west. They screwed us every chance they got. University West sucks ***... They boned me and my roommate hard on several occasions. Example, on move out they charged us $40 for not dusting the top of the ceiling fan blades which was on a vaulted ceiling and I'm sorry but I don't own a ladder.
During the summer it didn't matter how many days in advance I'd mail off the rent checks from Cedar Rapids, they always seemed to get them late. I'd say check the date on the check but apparently I could of written a false date. In July I mailed the check on the 1st of July but apparently they didn't get it until the 6th (5th is the due date)... There is no way it shouldn't have gotten there later than the 3rd. I swear they purposely didn't check the inbox until after the holiday weekend on purpose, only $40 no big deal... -

Don't expect an easy time for visitors to find an empty visitors stall very often... (there's like 10 total in all of Freddy Court it seems). This just proves how inconsistent DPS is... I've had visitors about 1-2 times a month all last year, last summer and this fall w/o even one incident.
However, to be fair, I live in the 30's, so the lot between here and 13th street is never even half full, even for VEISHEA.

Me too.
No of any places that are furnished? Being form out of state makes this tricky.

Re: Suggestions for places to live
I live out in west ames right now. Agree with the ppl saying it sucks to party out here. Oh sure it would be great if all of your friends were totally game for driving 15 minutes away from all the other parties. All it turns into is everyone in west ames getting on the bus and riding into town and then leaving the party early and heading all the way back. Pain in the ***.
It is cheap though.
Anyone know of any reason not to get a house? Anyone looking to rent out a house for next year?

Re: Suggestions for places to live
I've spent the last three years in a house on welch, and I wouldn't trade living anywhere else. Campustown area is second to none.try amesrent.com, cylone rent..

Thanks I know the house I lived in the last 2 years is still for rent. It was 6 of us with 2 kitchens. It's on west street and through Hunziker...not a bad place to live.

Re: Suggestions for places to live
Look towards the west side of Campus: Hyland, Campus Ave, and especially West St.
I lived on Welch in college but lived on West St. the year after I graduated and I loved it. Just a couple blocks away but still a great area.
