Campus Housing
Anyone have any suggestions on where on campus to live next year? I lived in Willow this year and enjoyed it, but I'm probably gonna move somewhere new next year. Any input on where is good/bad would be appreciated, especially for Freddie Court or Buchanan.

Re: Campus Housing
If you are considering Freddie you just as well go to a real apartment.

Re: Campus Housing
I have always lived in Buchanan Hall. Haven't even tried anywhere else and still live their today. If you set up your lofts just right in Buchanan, you can create yourself a lot of room in your room.

Re: Campus Housing
You should take into account where most of your classes will be, unless you don't mind taking the bus or walking long distances.
If you're looking to live in apt, I would stay away from Freddie Ct and find an apt or house through a commercial property, with some friends.
Again, it really depends on your lifestyle, etc.
My 2 cents.

Re: Campus Housing
I really liked Buchanan. I lived in a single room and shared bathroom with the room next door. I think you still have to have a meal plan though. I also lived in Wallace one semester. I believe you can live in Wallace without a meal plan.
I agree with just moving off-campus instead of living in Freddie Court which you may or may not be able to do yet. I do recommend doing it as an upper classman.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -
Re: Campus Housing
I wasn't a big fan of Freddy, and depending on your lifestyle (do you like to cook or anything like that, want a living room where you can have a couch or two and a huge tv), Buchanan could be an issue. You're a ton better off going off campus and getting an apartment in a lot of cases.

Re: Campus Housing
There is a bridge on S. 16th heading towards Dayton that has plenty of room to build a shanty. Its cheap, but you would have to watch out for spring floods.

Re: Campus Housing
Freddy is nice. Walk to class. Fully furnished. Washer/dryer in apartment. Wifi/cable. Direct bus route.

I think the convenience of Freddy is worth any price difference. Utilities are included in the price also. I have only lived in Freddy, but I have a friend who regrets moving out to live in west Ames.

Get an apartment. You can only avoid becoming a grown up for so long.

Re: Campus Housing
I loved my time at Fredrickson. It is a bit far from classes, and it was far from my work at the Union but I kind of liked having them seperate. If you have 3 cool guys to live with then that is definitely the route to go. I preferred the 2 big bedroom units compared to the 4 tiny bedroom ones.

Re: Campus Housing
I love living in Freddy, very accessible, easy up keep, utilities included, good bus route, car is right there, Hawthorne is great, workout area in community center isn't amazing but it beats fighting for equipment at the rec if all you want is a treadmill or eliptical. I walk fast but it's still not a horrible walk from campus.

Re: Campus Housing
there are like no cool people in freddy its mostly band geeks and athletes. (athlete part is cool). i feel like its for people who didnt have the balls to move off campus. I was transfer this year and thats why I chose freddy. didnt really know of anywhere else to live. it does have positive qualities. No worry about paying rent directly charged to your Ubill. freddy bus runs every 10 min. not to far from campus. included AC/heat laundry fully furnished cable and internet is also a plus.
im currently 50/50 on to stay here or move off campus for next fall.

Re: Campus Housing
So Buchanon is not just grad students anymore I assume? Where do the grad students go, or are they all intermingled?
