Of course GSB can't cancel finals, though... whoever started that rumor on the GSB Twitter and Facebook pages really messed up. GSB is worthless. Its only reason for existence is to provide a place for a small number of elected (a whopping 13% of students voted in 2010 - a 140% increase over the previous year) students to feel self-important.

So how would you suggest that the student fee money gets split up then? The GSB is there to allocate money to student groups when they need it for events and organizational things. This kind of attitude against the student government is really short sighted and not needed. Also being in GSB is a time consuming thing. You have no idea the amount of time that they put in to try and make things better.

I don't think students should have to support clubs that they wish not to join with student fees.

You could decrease that fee money by quite a bit and just let the groups fund themselves through member dues\group fundraising efforts.

honestly, what was that for? to mourn? hmm oh well. Canceling Monday finals was never going to happen. Those who got their hopes up that it was possible were just hoping for a pipe dream.
I was attending ISU when 9/11 happened and they didn't even cancel classes that do or the day after. Yes they did postpone the FB game that weekend much like many other schools and pro sports did. I have a feeling that was more about re-assessing security measures though.
I do remember the day 9/11 happened. I had just got out of the shower for my AM classes and turned on the TV and was shocked at what I was seeing. I didn't go to class at all that day, was glued to the TV. Those who did go told me either their class was nearly empty or the professor either turned on a TV or told everyone to go home and watch the TV coverage because there was no way class was going to benefit anyone that day with what was going on.

Never been a fan of GSB, it's a bunch of pompous students that feel they are important. There is a reason no one votes for it. BECAUSE NO ONE CARES!!!! YOU DON'T MATTER!!!

If you asked every American kid (and probably some who aren't) at Iowa State where they were when America was attacked on 9/11 I am willing to bet that 90% or more will tell you exactly where they were when this happened. I remember that day because I was 9 in Mrs. Beardstedt's fourth grade class.
On another note I'm pretty sure this idea didn't go any further than that status on Facebook, so we don't really need to be worried about it.

I think a lot of clubs would find the enjoy the freedom that comes with not getting their financing from GSB, but that's just me.

Re: Emergency GSB meeting to cancel finals???
They are good for some clubs such as Groove Drumline. We would not have drums if it weren't for the GSB. That being said, that is just one club.

granted i hate GSB as much as the next person but they actually do some (keyword "some") good
