Good luck finding one in winter. There are lots at the beginning of summer/end of spring. Pollinating corn pays extremely well, but is rather demanding.

I worked at Kingland systems. It's ok. They are pretty flexible and you have an opportunity to advance and get raises pretty easily if you just do what you're supposed to do which is a lot of research. It seemed like they were constantly hiring when I was there. Taig8er can tell you more about it too.
Once the school year comes along keep an eye out for the Intramural officiating jobs to open up. They are always looking for new refs/umpires. First sport would be flag football. Get ******* at alot but you get to be outside and be around football. Work there for a couple years and you'll be a supervisor where all you will do is sit there and get paid. Pretty nice.

With it being 95 degrees with 100% humidity we definitely should be worrying about winter.
If you are into sports definitely check out being an intramural official... Plenty of different sports to do and can easily move up to supervisor after a year or two in most sports. Either hockey or broomball are great ones to do late at night; I personally always enjoyed basketball/football and the players who ******* and complained, nothing like throwing a technical for someone on the court who can't keep their mouth shut!!
I'll throw in another vote for intramural reffing. You set your own schedule and can add/drop shifts pretty much as you please. If you're interested when school starts, e-mail Russ Jones (rejones@iastate.edu if I remember right) and he'll getcha hooked up.

Plus you don't need to know anything about the sport you are reffing!
What are some good part time jobs to have in ames?
Institute for Physical Research and Technology (IPRT) shuttle van. Easy job, flexible hours. Driving back and forth from campus to the Applied Sciences Complex that is NW of campus, with a few errands mixed in.
