University of Northern Iowa President Ben Allen released a statement this morning offering more details on where he will donate
his 4 percent raise. The state Board of Regents yesterday increased his salary by $12,800 to $332,800.
“I appreciate the Board’s endorsement of my work at UNI. However, in this very difficult budget environment for UNI, I do not think it would be appropriate for me to take a pay raise at this time. My wife, Pat, and I plan to give this salary increase to the UNI Foundation for scholarships and other student support.”
The university said Allen and his wife, Pat, are in the process of establishing an endowment fund that will provide scholarships for women in math and science fields.
