Oh, I don't know, my dad has only owned restaurants for 20+ years now. That's why I went to Iowa State in the first place, to study HRI. It's not worth the headache and in this economy the risk is huge.

High risk, high reward.....high hours, high stresses....a lot of highs. The toughest high to get is the reward, unfortunately.

But they will stop eating out, especially to high end restaurants. The only kind of restaurants that are thriving right now is fast food.
Re: Anyone wanna open a restaurant
Cafe Northwest has good steak. Crappy location, but good steak.

Its all worth it if you enjoy/embrace all of those things though. I see your point that it is very tough to do but it's something I'm looking forward to.

Ames does not have a place to get a good steak and we are in the middle of the midwest. I have never understood how this has happened without anybody at least trying to open a steakhouse. Think of all the business that place could bring in during graduations, before and after games, and when kids go for orientation or move in. I honestly think most people avoid going to Hickory Park because they know it is going to be packed during those times and I think a place to get a good steak is what Ames needs
Anything but another restaurant that serves burgers, chicken fingers, fries, nachos, onion rings, etc.
A higher end steak place would be nice and may draw a different crowd to the area.

Well, the best of luck to you then. My main advice to you: don't do it alone. Get a business partner that will be invested as you in it.
