Re: ISU ActivUs attempt at banning water bottle sales
I prefer to buy a bottle of water after another bottle of water and another bottle of water....
.....sorry.... My choice.
Re: ISU ActivUs attempt at banning water bottle sales
A+B=K?
2+2=11,435?
Why don't they just start a campaign to get people to throw away their bottles?

Try convincing people to pay an extra 50 cents per bottle.

Culver hung his governorship on getting it to 7 cents and failed....

Yeah, if I remember correctly, it's won all sorts of awards for taste and quality.
I drink close to a gallon of water a day (just at work on campus). If I were to buy that in bottles, it would cost me like $8 or more per day.
Kinda crazy that people can't just buy re-usable bottles OR buy a soda or water and reuse that bottle.
But whatever; if they want to waste their money, that's fine with me, I guess.
Re: ISU ActivUs attempt at banning water bottle sales
I believe the ISU dining said they get lots of money off this and will raise costs on dining services. As a student I don't really want that. If I want to buy bottled water let me buy bottled water. Amazing how a group like this can get away with it. Tell someone your helping the environment and you can do pretty much anything.
Re: ISU ActivUs attempt at banning water bottle sales
If people are dumb enough to pay for water equivalent, or worse, to Ames tap...that is their loss.

Seriously. I've lived all over the country and Ames has the best tasting tap water I've ever run into.

My parents get fresh spring water from the mountains. There is nothing better than that. I drink so much water when I am there it's ridiculous.

Well, yeah, fresh spring water is going to win ou tevery time. I was referring to municipal tap water.
When I lived in LA, for example, the water was so bad that bottled water was a requirement. Even a Britta filter couldn't make it taste drinkable.
Re: ISU ActivUs attempt at banning water bottle sales
No way in hell this happens, but it should. People who buy bottled water regularly are just ignorant. First off, it's more expensive. If it's the taste you're worried about, buy any Brita water filter and fill up a reusable water bottle. It's not hard, and it's not wasteful.

Oh, I wasn't arguing with you, I was just saying that you drink a lot more water when it's good.

Ames water is great. Campus water, particularly the dorms, particularly Friley and Old RCA, is horrible. Unless that has changed in the decade since I attended ISU. Then again, I just had my own Brita water filter and it wasn't a problem. I prefer the taste of that to any of the major bottlers anyway.
About the only time I buy bottled water is for road trips (where we freeze at least half to keep the cooler cool) and work travel because I don't trust tap water of the places I travel to and it's inconvenient for me to bring my own filtration devices.

Bottled water has its place such as when traveling. Regular, day-to-day though? There's no reason for it
