I don't know if "sort of silly" is really the right phrase.
Quite silly, I think, would fit more.
It's silly to think that banning bottled water will do anything... ANYTHING to reduce waste production. Even if that waste is no longer on campus, the bottles were still produced, and will simply wind up somewhere else. The sort of reduction you're talking about will take a massive world-wide shift in consumer habits, and it has been proven time and time again that banning and boycott campaigns have almost zero effect on actual consumption of a product rather than choice of provider. People will choose to not purchase their bottled water from, say, Fiji, but the people who are going to buy bottled water will continue to buy bottled water from a different source.
This is a case of college students getting their shorts in a bunch and reacting with a disproportionate and ultimately useless response.

Within 5 years there'll be a deposit on bottled water. I don't agree with the concept of bottle deposits, but if you do, why doesn't it apply to all portable beverage containers?

Just think of all the pickup drivers out there who dont need the truck for its design purpose, but rather because it makes them feel manly. After all, they can afford high gas prices and low gas mileage, so big deal if they never need to actually haul anything?
More than one guy has told me they like their truck so much because it almost feels like an extension of their *****. Compensate much?!?
I find it hilarious that water is STILL more expensive than gasoline.

I did a survey with 3 others for this cause and had a campus vote on this...I said to keep bottled water as did the other 3 when I spoke to them afterward so ISU ActivUS will fail at their goal
Come here to chew bubble gum and kick ***, have I. And all out of bubble gum, I am.

On the other hand, I firmly think that those people who buy bottle after bottle of water are complete idiots. BUY A FREAKIN WATER BOTTLE AND FILL IT UP!
And furthermore, it would be interesting to know how much time/money/fuel is spent trucking water around these days. I bet its absurd.
