ISU ActivUs attempt at banning water bottle sales
For those of you who don't know the campus club ISU ActivUs are trying to ban the sales of water bottles (Aquafina, Dasani, etc) because there is too much littering/not recycling going around campus.
I can't believe support for this even exists. Is it honestly that big of a deal? I mostly see cans and glass bottles littering campus, not water bottles. They aren't going to save littering by banning water bottles.
My teams: (as of 2/27/13) Cleveland Browns: 5-11 - .313 Cleveland Indians: 68-94 - .421 Cleveland Cavs: 19-38 - .333 Iowa State Cyclones (FB): 6-7 - .462 9/22/18 & 9/7/19 Akron and Iowa State CAN'T WAIT! -

Classic example of someone needing something to ***** about.
On the other hand, I firmly think that those people who buy bottle after bottle of water are complete idiots. BUY A FREAKIN WATER BOTTLE AND FILL IT UP!
And furthermore, it would be interesting to know how much time/money/fuel is spent trucking water around these days. I bet its absurd.

Bottled water has it's place (traveling etc) but the amount of people go spend a buck or whatever it is more than once a day on a bottle of water has to decrease. IMO, that is completely ridiculous. Do they even realize that that water isn't any better (In fact could be worse) than the stuff they can get from the tap without even having a filter? Bottled water is just one of those things I will never understand.
I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU
Or so I have read. -

people that do stuff without any thought to the long term consequences of the combined effect is what is ridiculous. is banning bottled water silly? sort of, but then bottled water is silly. And the amount of plastic bottled beverages we collectively consume and throw away as a society really is somewhat nauseating when you really think about it...but most don't which is why it continues to grow.

Re: ISU ActivUs attempt at banning water bottle sales
Is there a reason that they are trying to focus on eliminating bottled water and not trying to focus on ways to recycle water bottles?

Ames, the water is great (though i would still take a dasani over it). People should still have the choice to do what they want with their money though. I hate those that try to ban things just because they personally dont like them.

Re: ISU ActivUs attempt at banning water bottle sales
People will always continue to do what suits them if it isn't bothering anybody else, and oftentimes even if it does.
Just think of all the pickup drivers out there who dont need the truck for its design purpose, but rather because it makes them feel manly. After all, they can afford high gas prices and low gas mileage, so big deal if they never need to actually haul anything?
More than one guy has told me they like their truck so much because it almost feels like an extension of their *****. Compensate much?!?

Re: ISU ActivUs attempt at banning water bottle sales
I was actually just talking to my roommate the other day about how if they increased the can & bottle deposit to say 50 cents you'd probably never see anyone toss those cans and bottles outside anymore and if they did, they'd get quickly picked up.
The annoying part would be you'd almost have to take all your empties with you. If I took a 12 pack to a friends, I'd be out six bucks if I just left them there.
