Iowa regent universities expect spike in tuition revenue
Quote:
The University of Iowa and Iowa State University each expect more than $22 million in additional tuition revenue in 2012-13 compared to the current fiscal year, according to a budget update that will go to the state Board of Regents next week.
UI officials said they are expecting enrollment growth and improved retention, with a higher mix of non-resident students. Resident students will pay 3.75 percent more in tuition this fall, while nonresident students will pay 4.75 percent more. UI officials project $22.1 million in additional tuition revenue as a result.
At ISU, where resident students will pay 3.75 percent more in tuition and nonresident undergraduates and graduate students will pay 2.63 percent more, the tuition increases and enrollment gains are expected to generate $23.3 million in additional revenue compared to this year. Tuition revenue will be used for college and institutional priorities that include increased student financial aid, cost increases and salary adjustments for faculty and staff, ISU officials said.
At the University of Northern Iowa, tuition revenue in 2012-13 is projected to grow by $1 million compared to Fiscal Year 2012.

Re: Iowa regent universities expect spike in tuition revenue
Maybe its because they raised tuition another 3%.
Re: Iowa regent universities expect spike in tuition revenue
More customers paying more $ means more revenue? That's odd.
Re: Iowa regent universities expect spike in tuition revenue
Maybe they can give white, upper middle class, males, with just enough money to not receive ANY financial aid, some financial aid? I mean throw me a bone here... They didn't give me anything when I showed the medical bills from my fathers chemotherapy... but they have a **** ton of these "MVP" scholars that don't even try because they get everything paid for....
/end rant
Re: Iowa regent universities expect spike in tuition revenue
Let's try a year or two of no tuition increase for a change, since they have raised tuition at twice the inflation rate for at least the last 15 years.
Re: Iowa regent universities expect spike in tuition revenue
Tuition is like health insurance.
Costs keep going up.
Lucky the price of gas is tanking.

Are they actually still doing programs like this? I remember the Merit scholar program when I was at school. Their GPA and graduation rate was barely that of the Greek system. Why do they keep doing this crap?
Re: Iowa regent universities expect spike in tuition revenue
ISU's enrollment is also expected to top 30,000, while Iowa's will stay about the same and UNI's will decrease.

The Greek system's GPA is only 0.01 points higher than the university as a whole
I am guessing that the National Merit program you are referencing actually does have a significantly higher GPA and graduation rate; however I don't know those numbers for sure so I guess I'd wait for you to provide some support for your assertion first.
I'll trust the university administrators over some guys with an Internet connection about how to run Iowa State University.

If you look for it, aid is out there. It's not going to be served to you on a silver platter. That's just the way it is. Aid is more available to minorities because the donors want it made readily available. It's bogus that someone who is 1/20 Cherokee can get a huge scholarship just because of the small amount of Native American ancestry, but there isn't much you can do about it. It's all about making higher education more accessible to minorities. This is coming from a white male with enough money that the government doesn't give me any aid, other than loans. You're going to have to work for aid if you really want it.
