South Ghettos should have been burned down a long time ago. But a controlled burn with the residents moved out ahead of time would have been the better way to go.

sad day, I lived out there for about 3 years during my time at Iowa State.
Lived there in the mid-70's and the place was sort of a dump even back then when they were new. Crappy wooden frame walkups that creaked and moaned whenever the wind blew hard.
I lived there my last semester at ISU, sad to see this happen. For you students that rent, I know money can be tight but the $100 a year for renter's insurance gets you about $20,000 in coverage and is well worth it in case this ever happens to you. Granted it sucks to lose personal items that can't be replaced but take into consideration just how much you have invested in clothes, furniture, electronics, and personal items. $100 is not a lot to pay for the thousands of dollars something like this can put you out.
My wife lost everything in an apartment fire in West Des Moines in 2005 and thankfully had renter's insurance that covered it all.
The sad thing about me is, I generally only keep my apartment clean because I don't want an apartment fire to occur and then everyone think that I'm a slob.
