It's amusing that some people can't NOT make something political. Literally incapable of either that or just not posting. The OP asked not to make this political. If you want to hate on Obama, their is a cave for that...

I figured informing people of a major event on campus was worthy of a post in Campus Life, that by CF rules would stay non-political. I guess some people don't get it

A major political event on campus.

This thread was going political the second it was created.

Disagree. Yes, the event is political, but that doesn't mean the thread has to be. Seems like every time the words "Obama" or "Romney" come up, someone chimes in with their Fox News/MSNBC talking points and derails the thread.

My husband saw the Marine One(s) and other military helicopters practicing landing at the intramural softball fields yesterday. Just a head's up that any route fom there to campus will be hard to get through. I'm not a student, but live in Ames and plan on staying far away from campus and that area tomorrow.

Someone needs to ask BO if he is happy with his Hope and Change he touted 4 years ago and what type of Hope and Change he going to give us if re-elected. How much will the deficit will decrease by taxing the "rich" more? How many more jobs will be available for the college grads these next four years after all his Hope and Change is implemented?

I got my ticket. I asked some questions to the guy handing the tickets out, but I overheard someone saying you better be there at 10:30 am or it'll be hard to get in. I have class til 11 so should I still be able to get in? Thanks.

Any idea where the stage will be set up and when he will speak? Just curious.

University of Virginia Declines to Host Obama Campaign Rally - ABC News

“The use of either of the desired sites would require closing buildings adjacent to the sites for the entire day,” Wood explained in a statement. “The cancellation of 186 classes would occur. … This would result in an extraordinary disruption of the second day of the new semester.”
Wood said the university would also have had to foot the bill for added security measures on campus and along the presidential motorcade route. Because of the school’s nonpartisan status, it would have to offer “the same accommodations and bear the same costs” for Mitt Romney, she said.
“While there are certainly financial implications to a state university that has seen faculty and staff salary freezes for the past five years, the primary reasons for declining the offer were related to disruption of the first days of classes,” Wood said.
The Obama campaign announced Saturday that the president would still travel to Charlottesville on Wednesday but hold an off-campus rally at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion instead. The venue is roughly 20 blocks from the center of campus.
They offered access to their basketball arena.

I heard that he will be on the steps of Curtiss Hall but that isn't confirmed. The entrance for the audience will be from the northwest part of Central Campus, so I think that makes sense.

Yes expecting people to not result to partisan politics in a thread meant to be informative about an event is just asking way too much these days.
