President Obama to speak on Central Campus
Keep this non-political... please
President Obama will be speaking on Central Campus at Iowa State University next Tuesday, August 28.
To attend the event, a ticket is required. Ticket pick-up locations will be the Memorial Union as well as the Ames Organizing for America office, located at 413 Northwestern Avenue. They are free and open to the public, and will be made available starting at noon Saturday. If tickets are left over, they will be distributed on Sunday at the OFA office location only. (Tickets for the President's event in Boone were gone less than five hours after they were made available, so if you are interested in attending, showing up as close to noon as possible is a good idea.)
Doors to the event will open at 10:30am on Tuesday.
Regardless of your political beliefs, it is pretty cool to have a sitting President speak on our famous Central Campus.

If I can get there to get a ticket I will certainly go.
Would love to see both candidates in person.

Re: President Obama to speak on Central Campus
Considering unemployment amount those with a degree is 4% while near 8-10% for those without, a degree is important. And since it's been brought up to eliminate Pell Grants it might be worthwhile to at least listen. Regardless of party.

I remember both Clinton and Gore visiting for a Farm summit. I was working at Hilton at the time and that was one of the most vigorous SS searches I have ever been a part of. They take it way serious when both POTUS and VPOTUS will be there.

I for one would not have been able to attend ISU if it wasn't for Pell Grants.

EDIT: 1995... http://archive.inside.iastate.edu/1995/0505/Clinton.txt I believe that visit, according to my husband, happened right after the Oklahoma City bombing, henceforth even more thoroughness and amount of security than usual. I believe the pep band instruments all had to be searched.

I believe the pep band instruments all had to be searched. You are correct, I had forgotten that. Murrah building bombing April 19, Rural Conference April 25 and following. We had a Ryder truck that we were using to ferry and store equipment back and forth to the stadium and it was parked under the walkway from Hilton to Scheman when the SS arrived (not the day of the event). They told us in no uncertain terms to move that bleeping thing. Even though it was ours they wanted no reminder even on days when the principals were not on site.

I remember Gore campaigning in November 2000. And IIRC, Cheney campaigned couple of weeks after when we were playing the Huskers and he said that he was a Husker big fan.

Does anyone remember a prominent speaker on Central Campus in the past? I thought it was an interesting venue choice
