Vet College
I haven't been back to Ames for anything but football games in the last 8 years. I was wondering if the Vet college was still as good as it's always been? My daughter is a junior in high school and wants to be a vet. I of course immediately mention ISU and when I was younger, ISU hwas one of the best universities for veterinary. Can anyone give me any info?

Re: Vet College
They got in trouble a few years back for outdated facilities but just completed a huge renovation/upgrade. As far as I know they are back to being highly ranked now that the renovation is done.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to get her up there for a campus visit. I think once she is on the campus, she'll love it.

Still very good and hard to get accepted there!

Re: Vet College
I will never understand why on earth anyone would ever want to be a vet. Maybe cats and dogs but never large animal.

Re: Vet College
Where are rankings posted? I was under the impression that our vet school was not held in very high regard anymore. Not an attack, I hope that they are highly ranked. I had heard that the recent upgrades now allow use to meet minimum standards and have heard mixed things about faculty. Hopefully I am wrong, this is second and third hand information and I have no ties to the vet school.

Almost the same amount of education, probably more work, and crappier hours than Family Physician and no where near the pay. I don't get it either, but hey, I sure appreciate it when the vet shows up at 10:00 at night to help with an emergency.

Here are some rankings in 2011: Best Veterinary Medicine Programs | Top Veterinary Schools | US News Best Graduate Schools
This has us at #17 but keep in mind there aren't very many vet schools in the US.

Growing up with him owning and running a solo practice guaranteed I would never get into veterinary medicine. I don't even want pets around my house.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating. -
Re: Vet College
Ive never met a vet that didnt have a plan in place on how to stop being a vet. Its one of those jobs that seems cool on paper.
