Good, active place to live soph year (if not in a frat)? Buchanan/Freddy/other?
I'm having a little trouble choosing where I want to live next year. This year I lived in BWR and... let's just say 95% doors closed 95% of the time, at least on my floor. Especially on weekends. I guess when girls aren't around, guys don't seem too inclined to do much when sports aren't involved.
I've been searching frats but it seems to me like you really have to pull a hail Mary and pray that it works out when choosing between them. So if I don't find a frat in time, what's a good active place to live, where I can also have some privacy? (Kind of preferring a single, but freddy has separated rooms which seem fine also. A gf is involved). I also study EE for those wondering about class placement.
I've been to some parties at freddy and they're fun, but I keep hearing that it's a ghost town otherwise. Plus there's the gambling whether or not I get good roommates. I also hear that Buchanan is a good place to live, but also not too active/outgoing, especially with foreign students and families(?). Dorms like MWL/Helser/Friley seem like alright options, but I think I'd feel awkward being a sophomore talking to a bunch of freshmen.
Any suggestions?

Meet some friends, colaborate, and get yourself an apartment or rent a house.

I suggest you get out of the dorms... much better experience with hanging out with people/more opportunities to do things with neighbors
but if you insist, MWL for sure. (probably not the M part, though)

I lived in BWR for two years, and part of my floor was pretty open door, guess it just depends on the floor.

I agree with clonecones. If you want to stay in the Residence Halls go with Willow or Larch. Whatever you do don't move into Freddy Court.

Get a 4-5 bedroom apt. Or house near campus. Between the 4-5 of you, you shouldnt have problems finding people to hang out with.

I agree do not live in Maple your second year. I have lived in Maple both years, first year was fun, this year, not so much. Get into Larch or Willow, or try and find an apartment.

I'm confused in what you're looking for. You said your current dorm has doors closed a lot of the time, but with the new place you want some privacy. Are you talking about 2 different things?

I moved to Friley as a sophomore (from Larch) and it was the best experience I've had in the dorms. Although, I did move there to live with people I already knew, so that had a large impact.

I lived in both Willow and Larch and loved it. Moved into freddy my 3rd year with 3 friends and loved it out there as well... i think it just depends on who you live with

Why not try out Greek life if you want to get out of the dorms?
If you take away first base, they'll just go find a new ballpark to play in. -

Or just move into a co-ed floor in MWR. Being a sophomore in the dorms isn't weird. It's sticking around for year 3 or 4 where it starts to get into that catagory.

Agreed, in my experience freshmen and sophomores are totally alright in the dorms, but once you hit junior or older you should get out or it gets strange.

I had to stay in the dorms for a second year because of my scholarship. BWR is what you make out of it, I've lived there both years, haven't had trouble finding people or things to do. A few of my friends that live on those coed floors in MWL say that it is a big p*ssing contest to try and impress the girls, and I am personally not all for that.
Make friends, join a club (or several), talk to people in class.
