I dont understand why people are downgrading either choice of living while at college. Its everyones right to choose where they want to live and who they want to live with. Who cares, no one is better than the other. This thread started with a kid asking for advice not for who can talk the most crap about the other living situation. We are all cyclone fans no matter where we live/lived. Lets all take a step back and accept that we are all at Iowa State University, we all go to classes and we all tailgate for football games.

I hope you aren't serious, because I am a dormie, and do not have the problem you describe at all.

Trust me, i have dealt with so much and been through a lot, so i don't need to join a frat to overcome that.
I have encountered problems of all sorts and gotten through them just fine.

This is a very bold statement.
I am a "dormie" and have learned to get a long with all kinds of people. I have many good friends. I have learned to deal with these situations other than living in a frat, (i.e. through parents, high school, class, and my faith.)

There is getting along with someone and being friends with people, 2 different things. I have people I can work and get along with but outside of work I can care less about them. How many people here that weren't in frats think they didn't learn this by living in the dorms?
Wow, wrong thing to say. Again, I don't see any significant advantages to "preparing you for the real world" a frat has over not living in one. If anything its a pre-brain washing to accept all the BS that you'll have to put up with in corporate america.

I've been out of college since 1991 and I have just as many close friends and aquaintances being a dormie as any of you that were/are in a fraternity. I also find it amusing this little networking BS all the greeks bring up. Funny, but I have had a very successfull career so far and have never been asked once what greek system I was apart of while going to ISU as a prerequisite to getting a job.
Either side has it's pros and cons but there is BS going on from both sides and just because some of us did not like the greek system or think the majority are flakes is no different then the elitist crap that is coming from the other side.

I have to deal with people I don't necessarily see eye to eye with everyday, but I'm professional in the classroom and at work.

All but two U.S. presidents since 1825 have been fraternity men, and 63 percent of the U.S. presidents' cabinet members since 1900 have been fraternity men .
Studies show that 76 percent of Congress, 71 percent of the men listed in "Who's Who in America," and 85 percent of the Fortune 500 executives belong to a fraternity.
Since 1910, 85 percent of the Supreme Court justices have been Greek.
Just some interesting facts that show that Greeks dominate the upper level officers in our government and businesses in America. may not mean anything but it shows a strong correlation between being Greek and becoming an Upper level officer in our country. I know correlation doesn't imply causation but the numbers are pretty staggering.

Does this come from one of the frat pamphlets they hand out to lure students to their frat?

We're all Cyclones and there's really no need for this type of snippy discussion. Not to mention, the original poster specifically asked to leave the attacks out of the discussion and there was at least one warning posted in the thread.
This thread has run it's course....closed.
