Re: Iowa State - 2nd Least Safe Campus in America

This survey must be extremely flawed, as Drake is ranked above Iowa State.

This is the sarcasm pirate. If you see him anywhere in my post, it means I was being sarcastic. Thank you. Actually there's a good chance I'm being sarcastic even if I forgot the pirate. I'm not to be taken too seriously.

Drake is safer than ISU? riiiight. I've been to some of the A listed schools and they are NOT safe at all. Campus might be safe but not the Community. ISU has both. Wash U in St.Louis? Safe Campus, NOT so safe COMMUNITY!

All of the questions are things like "do the dorms have an attendant", "do the dorms have self-closing self-locking doors", "do you have to show ID to get into campus building", "are there blue-light phones and cameras" in parking lots and all over campus, and "how many police do you have". The top ten of their "safest" campus list is filled with schools in Baltimore, Boston, New York, and Chicago. Of course campuses in urban areas that are in many cases not safe will score better on those questions. They have security buildings and more police because they need them -- we don't. They only looked at safety measures, not crime statistics.
Great point. At the University of Chicago, they have their own police force, but in NO way is it even close to as safe as ISU. Just visit one of many urban campuses and you will be thankful how nice it is to be able to walk around at night in Ames.
