Re: It's VEISHEA Weekend!

Did anyone see this on the front page of the Iowa State Daily?

"Kyle Peterson, Veishea co-chair and junior in marketing, said due to low sales, those eligible to buy wristbands will now be allowed to buy up to four wristbands for friends."

Didn't see that coming, did we? Oh, wait...

I still struggle to remember VEISHEA's from my time there (96-00) though it was one of the few times I drank beer while showering...

Re: It's VEISHEA Weekend!

I agree, VEISHEA is way to early this year, and that it sucks that its being moved even earlier next year. I agree with all of you when it should be kept at the last weekend of April. It at least gives us a better chance for nice weather.

Re: It's VEISHEA Weekend!

That's just stupid - will the snow even be gone by then? That seems counter to the idea of having all of these "outside" events, and getting people (students, alumni, etc) on campus...[/quote]

I am more worried about it interfering with our deep run in the NCAA tournament next year....

Re: It's VEISHEA Weekend!

I remember when we would be officially done with classes on Wednesday and then it was nonstop partying until Sunday. Heck we even ran out of beer late late Friday/early Saturday and stayed up until 6:00 to buy more beer.

I hear that the theme for next year is:

VEISHEA - Where have all the good times gone?

Yeah, we should have brought Kelly Clarkson to Jack Trice, that would rock!

What do Cyclone fans and Hawkeye fans have in common?
Neither one ever attended the University of Iowa.

I'd rather see Kelly Clarkson than any of the bands performing this year.

I would rather listen to Larry Cotlar than anything that ever had anything to do with American Idol.

To each his own I guess.

Full disclosure, I do think the bands they have this year suck, but you have to do what you can do with the funds available.

The best band out there this weekend is Four Word Cause. Go see them play at the main stage.... 8:20pm.

Re: It's VEISHEA Weekend!

In the early 80's classes were not held on Thursday or Friday. VEISHA was usually the first week in May since finals were not until the end of May when ISU was on quarters instead of semesters. The weather was usually in the 70's. There would usually be a big concert early in the week. My freshman year The Who played in Hilton on Tuesday night. On Thursday about 50 us would rent canoes and float down the Des Moines river. Each night there would be keg parties on numerous dorm floors. Many frats would advertise 100 keg parties. They would block off the street and have bands. There were house parties all over. The legal drinking age was 19 at the time. There was never anything close to a riot since everyone was spread out partying in the dorms, frat land and off campus. There was no reason to even think of going to a bar since free beer was everywhere.

I wish it was later too. I was hoping to make it out there this year, but now I will miss it.

This must be why people confuse Heaven and Iowa

"People tend to overestimate what they can achieve in a year, but underestimate what they can achieve in a lifetime. Start with the molehill, then build the mountain. Start where you are with what you are and never lose sight of your dream." -Anthony Robbins

I can't believe they're moving it up ANOTHER week next year.. ugh. Why are they trying to kill VEISHEA??

Granted, this year winter has gone on forever and ever... but still, how can you not take weather into account?? It's the ******* midwest!!!
