Mystery Science Theatre 3000: Home Economics - Iowa State

If you are not familiar with MST3K, they make fun of old movies by adding comments while the movie plays. This movie is Home Economics produced by Iowa State College.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

I love MST3K.

"The girls got together for their regular gab session. Time for that all-important question."
"How do Pop-Tarts work?"

I want that video... (the origional, not the MST3K)

Saw that freshman year and about died laughing. I didn't even need commentary to make it funny - time had made that video funny enough!

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!!

This one was for the girls only! "Ohhhhhhhhhh..." This is awesome! Weird to see how the campus looked in the 50s, though.

The cold, arctic winds have descended upon Ames, Iowa. With winter's arrival, one season ends...
.... so that another can begin.

From within the concrete walls of Hilton Coliseum, a ceremony takes place where
a synergy between its players, fans, and coaches inspires greatness... success...

... Magic.

Found it extremely monogomous and a waste of time, even with the commentary.

That was something of a commercial to get girls to come to ISC

I've watched A LOT of MST3K. That line about "5 pound potty? She must've had a BIG breakfast!" is a classic.

I saw that on the "Shorts" compilation and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Then my mom walked in right in the middle of it and recognized it. They were still using the film when she went to college.

Great show. I preferred episodes with Mike Nelson, but Joel was ok too. YouTube has entire episodes, usually broken out into 10 parts (1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc). If you get a chance, check out Invasion of the Neptune Men or Prince of Space. Classic.

Classic. I loved the first line - "Iowa State College, the high school after high school." I laughed pretty hard at that.

I believed in Gene Chizik and all I got was this lousy limited-edition commemorative coin.

I knew a guy who worked at what is now the Instructional Technology Center at ISU when they actually gave MST3K that film. I don't exactly remember the story behind how the show's producers got ITC to give them the film, but I do remember they didn't say exactly what they were going to do with it. When the upper guys at ITC found out they were making fun of it (and Iowa State) on national TV, they were ******. The guy I knew thought it was funny as hell, and so do I.
