TKE
I know some members from other chapters and am thinking about joining up. Anyone here a current or former teke?

Re: TKE
Fall of 2004, at a different school. At the time I transfered schools after just a semester (to ISU ), and left the Teke stuff behind. Looking back, it was possibly the best semester of my life. Definitely a good time and worth everything.

Re: TKE
never understood paying money to make/meet new friends, but hey, that's just me.

and thus the gates have opened.

Re: TKE

I'm just gonna sit back and watch. I personally have no interest in Greek life (and never have) but I don't have anything against those who do join.
But I do hate the "paying for friends" argument. Did you not pay (usually more) to live in the dorms and meet people? That's a 2-way street IMO.
And with that...no more from me. I'll just go grab my popcorn.

Thing is that I'm not a partier or drinker.

. i didn't choose to live in the dorms because i thought it was a way to make friends, i choose to live in the dorms my first year because i was 18 and didn't know any better. i honestly don't remember more than maybe 5 people i met in my dorm, so no i wouldn't say i was living there making friends. i met way more people just going out and getting ****faced on weekends, and the people i did that with are the ones i still get together with when i go back to ames.

I would avoid joining the TKE house then. Maybe you should join Farm House but be careful around the windows.

I'm the same way. I met my friends by going to parties and doing really, really stupid ****. The dorms suck.

You get out of the residence halls what you put into them. I'm in my fourth year in the residence halls and considering a fifth. Show me a person who didn't have a good time in the residence halls, and I will show you a person who went out of their way to not take advantage of everything they offer.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

I had a blast in the residence halls. that being said, i would not live there more than a year because i would be paying more to live in a place that is usually covered in human excrement. that, and i got absolutley nothing accomplished there with all of my closest friends in and out of my room constantly.

Re: TKE
Definitely not a frat fan. Met some of my best friends in Larch Hall (or because of it). Of course, we became friends by going out and getting **** faced every weekend. Seems to me that that's a great bonding experience. Nothing like having to carry someone 1 mile, after they puked on a stranger to cement a friendship

Re: TKE
I would say when TKE was started back up a few year back, the guys were not drinkers either, but I dont know now. The Lutheran fraternity is not a party house, you could try that one.

I HATED the dorms, I made it 1 semester and moved out. The rooms were crappy, too many people on my floor I hated, RA's that were on ego trips ALL the time, and the food was horrible. I will take an frat/apartment anyday. Cheaper as well.
