Papa's Corner gone - replaced by Headliners. People's to return?
Campustown bar opens under new management
I didn't even know Papa's Corner closed, but apparently it is reopening tonight under new ownership. I think its the same guy that owns Element. It can only get better, because Papa's Corner was kind of sucky...Hopefully, they will make it a good venue and run some good specials.
Also, I heard that the Varsity theaters might be closing and that People's bar is looking to return in that location....

Varsity theaters have already closed

that has to be good news, i was only at PC once or twice, usually not by my choice. Still remember once on a friday night paying $3 cover and then $6.75 for a pitcher of beenwhen I could have gotten one for $3 anywhere else

I'll definitely check out Headliners the next time in Ames. I boycotted Papa's for what they did, but it sounds like Headliners at least has the right idea.

When I was in college Peoples was packed most nights, sad to see that location that empty. I guess they had it coming when they forced them out.

I think if Headliners turns out to be decent, and People's comes back in the old Varsity, Campustown will come out ahead in this whole thing...

Headliners is run by the staff that used to be at Mickey's. They got offered the jobs and all quit Mickey's as a group is what I heard... Mickey's was fun because of them and I now guarantee Headliner's turns into something sweet. They hired Brandy from 105.1 Channel Q to be in charge of organizing bands and such to come in. Looks like this place is going to be awesome!!!
Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

I agree Mickey's sucked because you couldn't move, but I got to know the staff pretty well and they're all good people.

Seriously, People's basically had a going away party with alums flying in from all over the country to party there one last time. sounds like a terrible place to me -

The one thing I will say about People's is that it could have used some renovations. The bathroom situation was ridiculous, the audio set-up was pretty weak for how many bands came in, and the bar was impossible to get to. That being said, my life was still spent there.
