My dad used to talk about this and I know there are pics in The Bomb of it. I mentioned it once when I was on the Homecoming Central committee back in college, but it was shot down pretty quickly. It looks like it was a blast and it would really be something if the students could get this going again.
Found this pic, but I've seen larger balls (and yes, I realize I just said I've seen larger balls and I know that doesn't surprise you...how immature of you).
The ball we used back in the 80s was a little larger as I recall and it had cardinal and gold panels. I recall we had to have it repaired and found a place off of South Duff just north of US 30 to repair it for us...kind of across the street from the old Hickory Park location.
I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
