Freshman
Hey I'm new to the board and attending ISU this fall. I'm going to be moving to Ames on the 18th. Quick facts: Agricultural Biochemistry Major, Living in Friley, in the Honors Program.
Classes:
BBMB 101
BIOL 211 & 211L
Chem 201 & 201L
Hon 121
Math 165
Any advice or tips for school or living in general?

Re: Freshman
If you can, move in the early day. I think it may cost a little more. But, if you still can decide, then move in as early as possible! Moving into Friley on the "main" day, is going to be a crazy. So many people, all over the place. Parking will suck and its just so crowded and busy...
Good luck on those classes. That schedule makes my freshman year schedule look like I was going into the first grade.
Oh, and figure out where your classes are before the first day. Walk around campus and see where you have to go. Don't be one of the people walking around campus lost, with their faces glued to a map, with a worried look on their face.

Re: Freshman
Dont bother moving in before 2pm if you are in Friley. Everyone tries to get there early to 'avoid the rush' when they are actually creating the big rush. No one moves in around 6pm and you should be perfectly fine!

This, It is always good to be the freshman who doesn't look like a freshman. When you are walking on campus and walk past someone don't put your head down, look right at them and say hello. You will be able to see who the freshmen are by the way they don't make eye contact. I always got a kick out of that!

Re: Freshman
Last year I moved into Friley at the earliest time and I got in and out. But in about 2 hours it was mayhem everywhere.

Re: Freshman
Welcome to Friley! I'm going into my 5th year there, and it's an awesome place to live. Great location, amazing community and staff, and lots of fun stuff to do.
Yep, move-in sucks, but it sucks for everybody equally. Don't worry about planning what time to get there, just arrive as soon as you can. There are crews of upperclassmen (the Move-In Crew) that will be there helping families get moved in as quickly as possible. Look for the shirts and use them! The students and staff keep things moving along, so it shouldn't be too bad. Just be prepared for lots of stairs (unless you live on the 2nd floor).
Make sure you say 'thanks' to your family and send them home as soon as you can- the first few days before classes even start are hands-down the BEST time to make new friends. You meet nearly 6 times as many people before the first week of school as you will meet during your entire second week of classes, so take advantage of that time and have some fun with new friends!
True and Valiant
I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Re: Freshman
Get to know everybody who lives near you, and become friends with most of them. I lived in Friley for my freshman and sophomore year. Got to know quite a few people my freshman year, then I changed floors and didn't really meet very many people on my floor. Big mistake. Always keep your door open and meet as many people as you can.
As for school, do your homework between classes or during the day and save the evenings for socializing if possible.

It's a beautiful campus, but it can be tough to navigate until you locate the basic landmarks. Plan your route to make sure you get to were you need to be. Don't be one of those knobs that shows up late on the first day.
Whereabouts in NW Iowa? I'm from Spirit Lake.
